AEW’s Swerve Strickland’s stock has risen substantially since his switch to AEW from WWE, and he feels that one other star who took the identical path, Buddy Matthews, has a promising future too.
Strickland was recently asked on his appearance on the “Battleground Podcast” a few wrestler whom he has never faced before that he would really like to wrestle. The previous AEW World Champion, without skipping a beat, named the injured AEW star Matthews as someone he would really like to face, while wishing him a speedy recovery.
“Truthfully, I’m waiting for probably among the best talents like throughout within the business to return back, you realize, hopefully he’s healthy and hopefully he can like do even higher than what he was giving before — Buddy Matthews, shout out to him,” said Strickland. “He’s one in every of those guys that is identical to a dog within the rain. I believe me and him could do some great work, and I sit up for seeing him back doing his own thing and doing like, you realize … I believe he has so much to supply within the wrestling world, and I would really like to see him back healthy again.”
Matthews and Strickland have never faced one another within the ring, despite each being a part of WWE and AEW at the identical time. And it could be a while before Strickland’s fantasy match becomes a reality because of the Australian’s injury. Matthews has been out of motion for over a 12 months after suffering an injury in a match against Kazuchika Okada on home soil. There is not any news on Matthews’ return date, with recent reports claiming that the injury is worse than originally feared. AEW reportedly was eyeing a return for him at the top of 2025, which couldn’t occur as Matthews continues to be reportedly affected by pain from his ankle injury.
