Controversy erupts over the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the Kannada film KD: The Devil, after it was banned by the Centre amid backlash over its lyrics and visuals. Hours following the ban, director Prem issued an apology and committed to rewriting the song. Yesterday, Nora Fatehi clarified that she shot the Kannada version of the song 3 years ago and was unaware of the Hindi version.

The song, featuring Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi, sparked outrage after its audio was released on YouTube, with many netizens criticising the lyrics as vulgar and objectifying women. This marks the primary time in Kannada film history that the Centre has taken the step to remove a song resulting from allegations of vulgarity. In a video statement, Prem addressed the Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke Song controversy, who also penned the lyrics, explained that “Nobody would intentionally commit a mistake.”
Addressing the controversy, Prem said, “I actually have written songs about God, mother, brothers, and love. People have certain expectations, especially with a movie about to release. I wrote this song from my perspective, inspired by a bottle of alcohol and a pickle.“
He continued, “I didn’t intend to write down something vulgar or hurt anyone’s feelings. I don’t understand the way it was perceived in another way. My family and I actually have been subjected to online abuse. I wish them well.”
He further assured that he would rework the song to make sure it will not offend anyone. The director vowed to release the revised version nationwide.
Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke Song Was BANNED
This development got here after Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw announced in Lok Sabha that the song had been faraway from YouTube. Vaishnaw emphasised that “freedom of speech isn’t absolute” and that reasonable restrictions should be followed to guard society and culture. He stressed the importance of taking “strict motion” to safeguard children, women, and vulnerable groups.
NHRC, WRC Object Vulgar Lyrics
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) also issued a legal notice to the filmmakers. They’ve urged them to remove the song from YouTube. Moreover, Advocate Vineet Jindal filed a grievance with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). He called for the ban resulting from the visuals being obscene and harmful, particularly for kids and ladies.
Women’s Rights Commissions from Karnataka and Haryana expressed concerns over the song’s lyrics as well. When questioned by the media, Prem defended the lyrics, claiming they were written in a special context.
Previous Controversy
The controversy follows a previous incident in December. Prem faced criticism for one more song from the identical film, Annthamma Jodetthu Kano. He described it as colloquial usage.
