Alexander Volkanovski reacts to Movsar Evloev likely securing a title shot together with his UFC London win

Alexander Volkanovski thinks his next opponent was identified on Saturday night at The O2 arena.

The newest UFC London event closed out with Movsar Evloev defeating Lerone Murphy via majority decision to stay undefeated in each the promotion and the game as an entire.

That fight marked a clash of two ignored featherweight contenders, each of whom believed they were long overdue a shot at gold.

It was the Russian who kept his hopes alive on March 21, and the featherweight king has taken notice.

Volkanovski was unsurprisingly watching on as two of his division’s top names battled in England’s capital for the best to face him.

The Australian legend reacted to the most important event during an interview on the UFC’s Paramount broadcast, and he expressed surprise at how Evloev was capable of get the higher of the house favorite on the feet.

And having seen that display, Volkanovski thinks the Russian contender will probably be his next challenger.

“I don’t think all of us expected Movsar to only wish to stand with Lerone. Whether that was something that he felt he needed to do, just so he could guarantee himself a title shot, I’m not too sure.

“You may see that he was so much stronger when he desired to take him down, and was capable of outdo him on the feet.

“For me, it’s quite impressive, to be honest. Fair play to him, he’s 20-0 now.

“I suppose he’s next,” he added.

The 2-time featherweight champ could also be skeptical concerning the UFC finally granting Evloev a shot given what transpired last 12 months.

Volkanovski requested the Evloev fight, making it clear that the prospect to take his ‘0’ was his preferred first defense after returning to the throne.

The UFC ignored that and as a substitute granted Diego Lopes a second opportunity.
