Which RFA Will Blink First, and the Maple Leafs President Talking to People Inside and Outside

Some young, pending RFAs are going to money in. Who will set the subsequent bar?

TSN: There are some big-named pending RFAs from the 2023 draft that will likely be searching for an enormous, recent deal, but are remaining patient. Teams would have liked to have them signed by now, however the likes of Connor Bedard, Leo Carlsson, and Adam Fantilli have held off because the market dynamics have shifted. Though he’s from the 2024 draft, are they waiting for Macklin Celebrini to sign an extension first? Chris Johnston:

“And what’s interesting of all, Gino, I don’t think those guys would mind if a younger player, that being Macklin Celebrini, who can sign his next deal as of July 1 with the San Jose Sharks, if he went first to be able to type of establish what the market rate is. After all, Celebrini is having the most efficient of those young stars by way of his season, almost on the cusp here of hitting the 100-point mark on this 12 months.”

Term may even be something to look at, as this offseason is the last time players will give you the chance to sign for eight years.

NHL Injuries: Avs, Red Wings, Panthers, Islanders, Senators, Penguins, and More

TSN: The camps of Macklin Celebrini and Connor Bedard will likely be eyeing one another to see who will blink first. Johnston on IT:

“Now, you’ll think it might be Bedard, on condition that his contract is expiring, but I don’t know that his camp would necessarily mind if Celebrini put a number on the board first at this cut-off date, though it’s not clear if that’s going to occur.

If the Sharks haven’t engaged in any respect with Celebrini’s camp on an extension, similarly quiet within the Bedard case but definitely it’s a case of those players being compared against each other, but in addition one another and wondering who’s going to sign and where those numbers are going to go this summer.”

TSN: Based on Pierre LeBrun, the Toronto Maple Leafs president and CEO of MLSE, Keith Pelley, has already began one-on-one meetings with some staff these days, as he takes a deeper dive into the organization. He’s also talking to people outside the organization

“I should indicate that Pelley hasn’t limited his meetings to only inside the organization but to also meeting with people and picking the brains of individuals throughout the league.

What Will Pending UFA Darren Raddysh Make on His Next Contract?

The urgency is that he’s got a call to make, and a couple of, and that starts with the GM position, Brad Treliving, who has another 12 months left on his contract.

Does Pelley resolve to keep on with Treliving, or does he resolve to make a change there?”

It’s a critical offseason for the Maple Leafs, and if they’ll make some changes, he’ll need as much time as he can get.
