A Zeem Buium Extension is on the Vancouver Canucks To-Do List This Offseason

The Vancouver Canucks can look to sign Zeev Buium to an enormous contract extension this offseason

Donnie & Dhali: Rick Dhaliwal, when asked what a contract extension could seem like for Vancouver Canucks defenseman Zeev Buium. The market has modified for young defenseman. Buium has one 12 months left on his deal and is eligible for an extension this offseason.

Don Taylor: “Zeev Buium.”

Dhaliwal: “Okay, I need to say this. Certainly one of the things on the Canucks to do list this summer shall be getting an extension done with Zeev Buium. I see plenty of people considering eight times eight, eight years and $8 million per.

A few things to bear in mind, the market’s gone up. The salary caps gone up. This kid’s got high, high upside, Donnie. Character through the roof.”

NHL Rumors: Chasing College Free Agent TJ Hughes

Taylor: “A part of the young core.”

Dhaliwal: “Yep. And okay, so two contracts I need you to bear in mind, okay. The market has modified. It modified when Luke Hughes got $9 million a 12 months. It modified when Jackson Lacombe got $9 million a 12 months. Each guys under 25.

If it’s an eight 12 months deal, I can see it being nine plus for Buium, due to the market growth, Don. Because the actual fact this kid’s won lots. He’s a winner.

And I’ll inform you something else. That is the last summer to get eight years, Don, then no more eight-year deals. Last summer, to get this guy tied up.”

Taylor: “Together with your own team.”

Dhaliwal: “Then it’s right down to seven. So there’s plenty of things to think about.”

Taylor: “Eight-year deals have worked out well for the Canucks.”

Dhaliwal: “Well, the last one, we don’t need to get into that, but in any case, the market is shifting for young, young defensemen, stud defensemen like William, couple of contracts to bear in mind.”

NHL Rumors: What ‘Core’ Should the Vancouver Canucks Keep?

Taylor: “Yeah, he’s got yet one more 12 months left, right?”

Dhaliwal: “Yeah, but they will get to him July 1st.”
