Paul Merson says Cole Palmer is being ‘wasted’ by Liam Rosenior on the wing and desires to start out within the No.10 role when Chelsea return to Premier League motion against Manchester City.

‘They then go, “I didn’t mean to say that!”, but it surely’s been happening for years and years.

‘They buy young players to sell them for extra money and that might be the model because this team isn’t winning the Premier League.
‘I’m a Chelsea fan and we’re not going to win the Premier League, we’re not got down to win the Premier League over 38 games.
‘On any given Saturday they’ll beat someone, but they won’t do it over 38 games.
‘For me, they need to vary it, but in the event that they get the appropriate money, in the event that they got £120m for Palmer after they bought him for £40m, I’d be shocked in the event that they didn’t sell him.
‘But they should get within the Champions League and so they’ve got to start out playing him where he’s comfortable playing. On the appropriate is a waste of time, he must play within the No.10 position and he’s pretty much as good as anyone around playing there.

Merson went on: ‘You would like top managers at Chelsea. Who knows? Liam Rosenior is likely to be, he is likely to be.
‘Now we have this thing in England, we at all times go, “Experience, experience”, but how do you get experience? You get experience by losing 4 games on the trot after which going and beating Port Vale and Manchester City. That’s the way you get experience.
‘Here, on this country, we have now young managers like Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, people like that, they lose a couple of games and so they’re out of a job.
‘I remember a few years ago when Teddy Sheringham went to Stevenage, this lad was among the finest football brains I’ve ever been on the pitch with… he goes to Stevenage, it doesn’t work out and he’s never managed since.
