Veteran Australia all-rounder Cameron Green is coping with a number of expectations each within the IPL and within the Australian team, but he has been in a balance situation in a profession that “will trend upwards”, said his national team head coach Andrew McDonald.

“There’s huge expectation inside the IPL, and there’s huge expectation with any all-rounder that shapes an Australian team. It’s not unfair, but there may be an expectation around all-rounders that they contribute in a certain way,” McDonald to SEN Radio.
Keeping in mind his all-round skill, KKR bought Cameron Green for a whopping Rs 25.20 crore, making him the most costly overseas buy ever within the IPL as well.
“It’s almost like they need them to average 45 with the bat and average lower than 30 with the ball. And there’s been only a few that try this. I’m sure that his profession will trend upwards,” McDonald said. “We all know he’s ok. He’s just got to balance out all those expectations, and specifically, playing all three formats, which is a big challenge for any cricketer,” he further added.

“I feel he’s ok” – Green
Nonetheless, McDonald also said Green’s fragile fitness is not going to be considered on the subject of considering him as an all-format player, particularly in Tests, for Australia as well.
“I feel the reply to that’s, yes (all-format player). I’ve got to confer with the selectors around that. But in the event you take a look at the last (Australian) team, Usman (Khawaja) has retired, and he vacates the No. 5 position,” the top coach said.
“But you’ve got (Beau) Webster and Green that potentially can play in the identical team, so that provides us incredible flexibility. But I feel he’s (Green) ok. It’s only a matter of time before he gets to a situation where he’s performing for Australia. I feel he’s got a number of things to work on around his game, but that’s no different to anyone else,” Andrew McDonald concluded.
