Backrooms, A24’s upcoming horror, is already frightening horror enthusiasts. Following the discharge of its trailer, fans are cowering of their seats before they get to theaters, and a few are wondering where the found-footage sci-fi got its inspiration.
It seems that the movie derives from an old 4chan thread, by which a user conceptualized the fear of “backrooms” in fluorescent, “mono-yellow” empty rooms. So, what exactly is the movie about?

Back in 2019, a 4chan user prompted others to share “disquieting” images that resonated with them. One responded with a photograph of a yellow-tinged room, just like the one seen within the 2026 horror film.

Who Is within the Backrooms Movie Forged?
The Backrooms movie is led by Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve.
