The controversial referee who oversaw Deontay Wilder’s win over Derek Chisora is not going to be punished for his at times comical performance on Saturday night.

“You either stop the fight otherwise you don’t interfere. These are the principles of the sport. I’m glad my guy won because I believed he was going to get robbed.”

The Ring Magazine have since contacted the British Boxing Board of Control, and specifically their general secretary Robert Smith. He insists that the board are satisfied with Bates’ performance and won’t be looking into the matter further.

The Ring report notes that a board meeting wherein all performances will probably be reviewed will happen on Wednesday, but that’s standard fare after major events.
