Former WWE World Champion and current AEW star The Big Show, aka Paul Wight, recently reflected on retirement. Wight’s last in-ring match was in 2024, where he joined Chris Jericho and Mike Bailey in a Six-Man Tag Team match. Their team emerged victorious over The Don Callis Family and Lance Archer.
Recently, the erstwhile Big Show appeared on Chris Van Vliet’s “Insight” podcast. Through the chat, he claimed that he’s not going to compete for any championship since he desires to teach young talent in AEW. Wight also stated that he’s got a very good boss in Tony Khan. The previous WWE Superstar said,
“I’m feeling real good. I believe my major thing now’s I understand there’s a brief window left. And listen, I’m not in any way, shape or form delusional that I’m going to exit and compete for championships and pull the wagon. Those days are done. Also, in fairness to the younger talent that’s digging and striving now. They don’t have to see my a** every week, taking on TV time and ring time.”
“There’s nothing I can do this’s going to make my profession any larger or higher. All I can do is enjoy a number of the last years that I even have under contract with AEW and hopefully have some fun with a number of the younger talent and teach them a number of the lessons which were passed all the way down to me and just have a bit little bit of fun. I’m in a extremely great spot. I got a very good boss that believes in me, supports me, and provides me a possibility to be an element of the business.”
Former WWE Star Big Show On Possible Return To The Ring
Moreover, Paul Wight shared his thoughts on a possible return to the ring. The previous WWE World Heavyweight Champion said,
“It’s funny, with wrestling. I believe for me to get back within the ring and compete, I’m going to must be a certain level. I’ll never be what I used to be. Got two fake knees and two hips. The proprioception is different. The connection between your joints is different. You are feeling different as an athlete. So I even have to just accept what am I now, and does that enhance the product that I’m doing? Sure, I’m smart enough and sufficiently old.”
“There are specific things that I can do that may still give a bit kickback to nostalgia, will still appear like a giant, dangerous giant that’s my character and teach. But at the identical time, if it looks like, oh, put a bullet in [him]. Well, I’m not going to do this. In order that’s what all this tough work now’s, ‘Okay, what’s the one thing that I can really control?’ That’s conditioning and weight. I don’t must be 500 kilos anymore. I must be about 350.”
