EXCLUSIVE: Chiraiya Creator Divy Nidhi Sharma REACTS To Show Being Termed ‘Anti-Men’

Divy Nidhi Sharma is a widely known screenwriter and dialogue author related to each the Hindi film and teleivison industries. Over the course of his profession, Sharma has been assiciated with several well-known projects reminiscent of Sitaare Zameen Par (primary author), Laapataa Ladies (additional dialogues), Aloo Chaat (story & dialogues), Anupamaa (story & dialogues) and more. Divy recently impressed the audience with Chiraiya – an online series that touched upon the subject of marital rape and feminine consent.

Since its release on JioHotstar in March 2026, the show has got the web talking. While many praised it for showing a sensitive topic, others took to social media to slam it and call it ‘anti-men’. During an exclusive interaction with Bollywood Bubble, Divy opened up about this response and why it’s triggering people. He also revealed the difficulties he faced while scripting the show and why it made him cry.

Divy Nidhi Sharma On Chiraiya Being Termed ‘Anti-Man’

When asked about his show, Chiraiya, being tagged as an anti-men show and why persons are getting triggered by the content shown in it, Divy Nidhi Sharma said, “Yes, there may be a small section of people that were triggered by the show. When an uncomfortable truth involves light, lots of us wish to brush it under the carpet. Because facing it means questioning a component of our belief system, a component of our social fabric, a component of who we’re. I remain hopeful that when the immediate anger settles, most of them will agree with what the show is attempting to say.”

Talking in regards to the difficulties he faced while penning the series that highlights the dark side of patriarchy in India and ladies’s silent suffering, the creator addmitted, “It was probably the most difficult script I actually have ever written.” He continued, “To put in writing something that’s thus far away out of your lived experience is indeed very difficult. My first response was to offer up, (but) it was my wife who convinced me to consider in myself and go for it. Probably the most difficult scene to put in writing was the one where Puja cuts herself. I kept crying after writing it.”

Directed by Shashant Shah and produced by SVF Entertainment, Chiraiya is created by Divy Nidhi Sharma. It stars Divya Dutta, Sanjay Mishra, Prasanna Bisht, Siddharth Shaw, Faisal Rashid, Tinnu Anand Sarita Joshi and Anjum Saxena. The show is an adaptation of the Bengali web series Sampurna. It premiered on JioHotstar on March 20, 2026.

The show follows a young bride as she navigates a suffocating marriage while battling for autonomy in a society that values family honour over her consent. Chiraiya touches about topics reminiscent of marital rape, the parable of implied consent inside marriage and the emotional and psychological struggle a women endures to save lots of her dignity.
