Liam Rosenior has hailed Moises Caicedo as ‘the most effective defensive midfielders on the earth’ ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League match against Manchester City on Sunday.

Caicedo is ready to make his a centesimal Premier League appearance for Chelsea this weekend as City travel to Stamford Bridge.

The Ecuador international, who joined Chelsea in a £115 million deal from Brighton in 2023, has established himself as one in every of the leading midfielders within the Premier League.

‘For me, he’s the most effective defensive midfield players, if not one of the best defensive midfield player in world football,’ Rosenior said.

‘Due to his intelligence, his physicality, his technical quality, how he understands the sport. He’s going to be huge for us on Sunday.’

Rosenior can also be confident that Chelsea can beat City despite registering only one win of their last six Premier League matches.

‘After all we are able to, we’re a superb team,’ Rosenior said.

‘We’ve undergone a difficult run, although in that run we were punished for mistakes, there have been good moments.

‘Once I actually analysed the games that we’ve had, we’ve caused every team we’ve played against problems but haven’t had the outcomes for that.

‘We’d like to ensure that we keep the back door shut. We’d like to not switch off. We’d like to not make mistakes because Manchester City will punish you. But I still want us to exit and play our game.’

Rosenior also confirmed that Enzo Fernandez will still not be available for the sport against City this weekend despite issuing an apology to the club for his comments surrounding a possible move to Real Madrid.

‘I’ve had a very good conversation myself, I had three or 4 with Enzo. He’s apologised to me, he’s apologised to the club and we’ll take care of that after a large game on Sunday,’ Rosenior said.

‘It’s a serious meeting about something very serious. Enzo, I said from each step along this manner… I’m not questioning Enzo’s character, I’m not questioning who he’s as an individual. I imagine people make mistakes and you may’t overstep the punishment for the error. I feel we’ve made a sanction, we made a call, I made a call, and what I need for Enzo is for him to return on here and have an excellent profession.

‘He won’t play on Sunday but hopefully after that he’ll be a large a part of the group moving forward.

‘There’s still a number of hurdles that have to be overcome that I won’t go into but at the identical time I need every player really, really focused now on an enormous run.’
