Manchester United legend Nicky Butt has urged the club to send Leny Yoro out on loan next season and sign one other centre-half.

Rebuilding their midfield is a top priority for United this summer with Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali all top targets. The club can even look so as to add a left winger to the squad with a brand new left-back also into account.

Butt nonetheless believes one other centre-half is required to take the team to the subsequent level. Harry Maguire has signed a contract extension at Old Trafford with he and Lisandro Martinez the primary alternative pairing of Michael Carrick.

Matthijs de Ligt was in wonderful form earlier this season but a mysterious back injury has seen him miss five months of motion with no clear picture on when he’ll return.

Ayden Heaven and Yoro are also in the combo, thought to be a partnership for the long run.

United saw off strong interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool to sign Yoro from Lille in 2024 with Butt convinced he’ll grow into a significant player for the club.

But along with his old side hoping to be back among the many Champions League elite next season, the previous midfielder believes the young Frenchman would profit from a loan switch.

With doubts also over the long-term fitness of Martinez and Maguire, Butt has the club to exit and buy ‘a top, top defender.’

‘[Matthijs] De Ligt is a top, top player, but he’s had a great deal of injuries and what are you able to do there? You’ll be able to’t do away with him since you’ll lose an excessive amount of money, you’ve got to get him fit and see what he’s about,’ Butt told Paddy Power.

‘So that you’ve got Harry and De Ligt. Then you definitely’re [Lenny] Yoro, I believe he’s a young player who’s going to be a top, top defender.

‘Nevertheless it’s too soon for him to go and take a look at and get us to the latter stages of the Champions League. I might loan him out.

‘[Lisandro] Martinez, each time he plays he does thoroughly, he’s player, he’s a correct defender, he’s good with the ball, he’s a tough little sod.

‘But he’s injured an excessive amount of, so I believe they’re going to need to go and search for a top centre-back.

‘I don’t think it must be the primary port of call, but I believe if you should get to the extent where Man Utd must be back playing, I believe go and get a top centre-back. Someone like a Rio Ferdinand, a top, really established player.

‘Maguire is older and De Ligt and Martinez get quite a lot of injuries, Yoro is the one which does keep fit, but he’s far too young to hold the back 4 himself. So [Michael Carrick] must exit and buy a top, top defender.’
