Axar Patel

Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel said that fielding lapses cost them dearly as they fell short by 23 runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) of their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match on the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.

“I feel we got off to a superb start, but when we talk concerning the chase, after the ability play, we lost two or three wickets in quick succession, which broke the momentum. I feel the difference in fielding was the game-changing moment for me. And should you take a look at it, every time wickets fell, they fell in pairs, which made things very difficult. Wickets kept falling in clusters, and that led to a drop in momentum,” Axar Patel said through the post-match presentation.

He also stated that the bowlers did well to limit the full to around 215, but additionally said dropped catches undermined the chase.

“I feel the batsmen did an honest job, but overall, our fielding allow us to down, because should you take a look at it, chasing around 213-215 was just about possible. I would really like to credit the bowlers; they did a excellent job restricting the opposition to around 215-217. It was a excellent batting wicket. But as I said, if we hadn’t dropped one or two catches in the sphere, the result might have been different. (Did the pitch decelerate?) No, nothing really modified. I feel it was tougher for them, possibly due to dew, they usually bowled pretty much,” Patel further added.

Nonetheless, the five-time champions CSK registered their first win of the season, ending a six-match losing streak at Chepauk Stadium with a 23-run victory over the Capitals on Saturday as well. Sanju Samson smashed a shocking unbeaten century, whereas Jamie Overton claimed a four-wicket haul for CSK as well.

After the sport, Jamie Overton said: “Yeah, very comfortable. Just finally get a win in front of our home crowd. It’s great playing here and, yeah, nice to offer them the win. Yeah, it’s been really good. For a few games it hasn’t quite gone my way, obviously one over against Timmy David last week, just form of ruined my figures slightly bit, but these items occur in T20 cricket. But yeah, it’s been feeling good since probably December time within the Big Bash. I’ve been bowling some good gas and just attempting to keep it going, really. I’m just attempting to bend my back and hopefully get a couple of wickets.”

“I feel it was just attempting to hit the highest of the stumps. I felt prefer it was slightly bit tacky, some felt prefer it slid through, after which the subsequent one form of jumped up slightly bit. So it was just attempting to bring them forward and trying to scale back their cross-batted shots slightly bit. (on his side) Yeah, it’s fantastic. It’s only a little bit of cramp. It was quite hot on the market for me. But yeah, I’ll be fantastic,” he concluded.
