Shawn Hatosy reacted to the news that his The Pitt costar Supriya Ganesh is not going to return for the upcoming third season of the medical hit.
“I can’t really comment because I don’t really know exactly what’s occurring there, but he’s obviously disillusioned,” Hatosy, 50, told Gold Derby in a Friday, April 10, interview, referring to his character. “I’m disillusioned just for this reason dynamic [and] this relationship that they’ve … the writers teased these moments throughout season 1 and we explored it.”
Hatosy stars on The Pitt as Dr. Abbot, an evening shift attending who works with SWAT in the course of the day. Ganesh, 28, meanwhile portrays resident Dr. Mohan. News broke earlier in April that Ganesh won’t return for season 3, which was a “story-driven” decision.
Throughout each season 1 and a couple of, fans have shipped Abbot and Mohan, especially when he offered to cover funds for a pricy procedure with no questions asked.
“There’s no there there aside from this concept, so the thought isn’t finished,” Hatosy told Gold Derby. “I feel that Supriya’s characterization of Dr. Mohan and what she has dropped at it has made the audience love her in a giant way, you recognize, she’s a fan-favorite.”
He continued, “I might say that Dr. Abbot is the top of [Mohan’s] fan club, you recognize, and early on he’s believed in her and he sees her as the long run. He says that she’s the neatest one here.”
Based on Hatosy, he’d wish to bring Ganesh’s Mohan to the night shift for a possible spinoff.
“I feel the facility dynamic is apparent, so I don’t see Abbot as someone who would cross that line,” he teased of fan hope for an onscreen romance. “I feel that’s what makes the connection so special since it’s clear that he’s got that attraction, but there’s nowhere to go along with it. That creates this excitement, you recognize?”

Ganesh has not publicly addressed her The Pitt departure, though previously questioned her character’s future.
“It’s as much as the writers. Let’s see where they find yourself taking her,” Ganesh exclusively told Us Weekly in March. “I feel we left her in a very interesting spot. I’m really curious where she finally ends up going.”
Ganesh also canceled her planned appearance on the forged’s PaleyFest panel this weekend.
“Hi everyone — undecided why it’s not removed off the positioning but I is not going to be at Paleyfest this Sunday,” she wrote via her Instagram Stories on Thursday, April 9. “I do know a few of you obtain tickets to see me and I hope you recognize this shouldn’t be a choice I take frivolously. Love you all.”
The Pitt season 2 finale airs on HBO Max Thursday, April 16 at 9 p.m. ET.
