Marcos, Jr.\u2019s priorities extend beyond legacy-building, Malaca\u00f1ang said on Wednesday, emphasizing his administration\u2019s efforts to institutionalize accountability in government, particularly in pursuing corruption cases.<\/p>\n<p>Palace Press Officer Clarissa A. Castro said Mr. Marcos goals to be certain that these initiatives proceed beyond his term, alongside sustained investments in agriculture, healthcare and education\u2014sectors the administration counts as critical to long-term growth and social stability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President just isn&#8217;t solely focused on his legacy. He&#8217;s actively working and taking motion,\u201d she told broadcaster DZMM in Filipino.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis response\u2014especially given the crisis within the Middle East\u2014shows how the president moves to deal with challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The President, whose term ends in 2028, faces pressing issues akin to the continuing graft scandal, rising fuel prices triggered by the Middle East crisis, weakening economy and a depreciating peso.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe acknowledge fuel prices are high, however the President is taking motion,\u201d said Ms. Castro, noting the federal government\u2019s actions in securing oil supply.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Castro\u2019s remarks followed Davao City Rep. Paolo Z. Duterte criticisms on Mr. Marcos\u2019 record, saying in a social media post on Monday that \u201cyour legacy is your corruption\u201d at a time when Filipinos are grappling with rising costs and fuel price spikes tied to the Middle East crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Duterte, son of former President Rodrigo R. Duterte, accused Mr. Marcos of prioritizing political image over each day economic pressures.<\/p>\n<p>The Marcos-Duterte tandem, a force that delivered a landslide win within the 2022 presidential polls, had a falling out after the Duterte patriarch was flown to the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The Duterte family blamed Mr. Marcos for the arrest of the previous president, accusing his administration of kidnapping. \u2014 <strong>Chloe Mari A.
