A Georgia woman found guilty of kid abuse was sentenced to 40 years in prison after her child told an elementary school teacher that their mother allegedly kicked and punched their legs, in addition to \u201cchoked\u201d them, authorities said.<\/p>\n

At the top of Candice Nicole McClure\u2019s<\/strong> jury trial that unfolded over 4 days, she was convicted of 1 count of aggravated assault and two counts of cruelty to children<\/a>, the Cherokee County District Attorney\u2019s Office in Georgia announced in a news release.<\/p>\n

McClure, 35, of Lenox, was sentenced to prison that very same day, in accordance with the office.<\/p>\n

It was not immediately clear who represented her at trial.<\/p>\n

The case against McClure dates back to when a Cherokee County teacher reported possible physical abuse against McClure\u2019s child in April 2023, after the kid spoke up in regards to the abuse, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tA primary-grade teacher in Tennessee was recently arrested on two counts of kid abuse after an alleged incident that involved two of her own children. Heather Pecht\u2019s estranged husband reported the alleged abuse to Chattanooga Police on Friday, December 12, after he picked up two of his children from her home, in accordance with The Chattanoogan. [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe family was recent to Cherokee County, and we consider the abuse had been ongoing before the family arrived,\u201d Cherokee Assistant District Attorney David Bailey<\/strong>, the lead prosecutor in McClure\u2019s case, said in a press release.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe schoolteachers are the heroes on this case,\u201d Bailey added.<\/p>\n

After the teacher got here forward to authorities, the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services and Canton police began investigating McClure, in accordance with prosecutors.<\/p>\n

When a DFCS worker went to McClure\u2019s home \u201cunannounced,\u201d they found bruises on her \u201cchild\u2019s leg and a patterned injury on the kid\u2019s brow,\u201d the district attorney\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n

The worker took photos of the injuries inflicted on the kid, who was taken to Children\u2019s Healthcare of Atlanta hospital, in accordance with prosecutors.<\/p>\n

Hospital staff examined the injuries, including to the kid\u2019s brow, that were \u201cconsistent with being struck by a belt,\u201d the district attorney\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n

McClure\u2019s child, 12 state witnesses, members of the family, law enforcement officials and others testified at her trial, in accordance with prosecutors.<\/p>\n

The jurors were also shown evidence of previous injuries to the kid that occurred nearly 10 years earlier, when the kid was 4, in a special county, the district attorney\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n

While reading a victim impact statement in court, McClure\u2019s child said that they were grateful that the jury \u201cheard\u201d their story, in accordance with prosecutors.<\/p>\n

The kid was joined by their adoptive parent, a victim advocate and a service dog named Parker, who the district attorney\u2019s office said \u201cprovided comfort and support\u201d to the victim.<\/p>\n
