Wilder has even claimed that after the vicious knockdown, he took it easy on his rival through the later rounds to be able to avoid everlasting damage.

Deontay Wilder called for referee to be banned after Derek Chisora fight

There was general uproar across social media after Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora’s showdown on Saturday night, particularly from the American audience. The previous world champion did win a split decision, but appeared to do it against all odds given a lopsided officiating performance.

After scoring his eighth round knockdown he had some extent deducted, and Chisora was given every probability to make it to the ultimate bell on home soil. And Wilder called for referee Mark Bates to be banned after the very fact telling media including Bloody Elbow that he was hit at the back of the pinnacle 10-12 times.

“I just hope and pray the boxing commissions, the people, do something about these items,” Wilder said of Bates’ performance during his post-fight press conference before explicitly declaring: “That referee shouldn’t be allowed to ref again.”

Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel then detailed their grievances further, adding: “One, in case your corner enters the ring, it’s an automatic disqualification. Number two, if you happen to’re knocked out of the ring you will have 20 seconds to get in but you’re not allowed to be helped by your corner.

“Number three, if you happen to get hit and also you’re falling but you grab the rope, it’s an automatic eight-count. Number 4, if you happen to get hit after the bell, it’s the ref’s discretion to take some extent off. Number five, when Derek stepped back and touched his eye, that’s not allowed.

“You either stop the fight otherwise you don’t interfere. These are the principles of the sport. I’m glad my guy won because I believed he was going to get robbed.”

Deontay Wilder vs Derek Chisora referee is not going to face punishment

The Ring Magazine have since contacted the British Boxing Board of Control, and specifically their general secretary Robert Smith.
