Donald Trump openly thanked one Pakistani mediator specifically for his assist in brokering a ceasefire with Iran.<\/p>\n

Field Marshal Asim Munir was publicly praised for helping the 2 countries reach a fragile two-week ceasefire.<\/p>\n

Often known as Trump\u2019s \u2018favourite field marshal\u2019, the Pakistani army chief skyrocketed to power and has lifelong immunity from prosecution in his country.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s even been wined and dined by the US president, having visited Washington, DC, in July last yr.<\/p>\n

But who’s the Pakistani army chief \u2013 and why is Trump seemingly infatuated with him?<\/p>\n

Unlike other Pakistani army chiefs, he was not educated at British boarding schools or military colleges, but moderately attended a state madrassa \u2013 or school.<\/p>\n

After, he went to the Mangla Officers Training School, a less prestigious institution than the Pakistan Military Academy, where many other government officials got their start.<\/p>\n

Munir went to review in Tokyo and Kuala Lumpur before making his way up the ranks in Pakistan\u2019s military.<\/p>\n

After a possible war began brewing between Pakistan and India last May, Munir made his mark \u2013 claiming victory over India and sparking a movement of support for him.<\/p>\n

Munir has also butted heads with former Iranian Prime Minister Imran Khan, who fired Munir from Pakistan\u2019s intelligence agency in 2019. <\/p>\n

Khan and his supporters have slammed Munir for ousting him from office in 2022. <\/p>\n

The previous Prime Minister still has widespread support in the general public, but Munir\u2019s command of Pakistan\u2019s military has him at odds with Khan\u2019s supporters, who consider he pushed for Khan to be removed. <\/p>\n

Why is Trump such a fan? <\/h2>\n

It might need something to do with the undeniable fact that Munir, together with other Pakistani officials, nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize last yr. <\/p>\n

The nomination got him an invite to the White House, where he dined with Trump, who dubbed him his \u2018favourite field marshal\u2019.<\/p>\n

But Munir\u2019s iron grip over the branches of Pakistan\u2019s military and his authority over Pakistan\u2019s nuclear weapons have raised eyebrows.<\/p>\n

Many consider Munir is using his position as a mediator between Iran and the US as a likelihood to strengthen Pakistan\u2019s relationship with the USA.<\/p>\n

Kamran Bokhari, the senior director of Latest Lines Institute, told the Latest York Times<\/a>: \u2018It’s in Pakistan\u2019s interest to be certain that the USA reach an understanding with Iran.<\/p>\n

\u2018Islamabad doesn’t want the state to collapse in Tehran whilst the regime is being severely degraded.\u2019<\/p>\n
