The USA military issued a warning Monday that it should be enforcing a blockade of Iranian ports on the Gulf of Oman \u2014 east of the Strait of Hormuz \u2014 as ceasefire negotiations with Iran broke down over the weekend, U.S. Central Command said in a notice to seafarers.<\/p>\n

The notice said the blockade would begin at 10 a.m. eastern, following a proclamation from U.S. President Donald Trump. The Gulf of Oman is a strategic body of water within the Arabian Sea, which lies just east of the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has been blocking to most international shipping traffic for weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe blockade will likely be enforced impartially against vessels of all nations entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports on the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman,\u201d the U.S. military notice said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, NATO allies, including Britain and France, said they might not be drawn into the conflict by collaborating within the blockade.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not supporting the blockade,\u201d British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told the BBC.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy decision has been very clearly that regardless of the pressure, and there\u2019s been some considerable pressure, we\u2019re not getting dragged into the war,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The U.S. said it should \u201cnot impede freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAny vessel entering or departing the\u00a0blockaded area without authorization is subject to interception, diversion, and capture,\u201d the note said.<\/p>\n

The blockade \u201cencompasses the whole lot of the Iranian coastline to incorporate but not limited to ports and oil terminals,\u201d the note said, adding that humanitarian shipments including food, medical supplies and other essential goods can be permitted, subject to inspection.<\/p>\n
