Following the net leak of \u2018Jana Nayagan,\u2019 the Indian Motion Picture Producers\u2019 Association (IMPPA) has sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling for stringent motion against piracy. The body\u2019s secretary highlighted that delays within the film certification process make movies more vulnerable to piracy and online leaks.<\/p>\n
Of their letter dated April 11, IMPPA emphasised the urgent need for stronger measures against individuals and platforms facilitating piracy. Anil Nagrath, Secretary of IMPPA, chatting with Mid-Day, said, \u201cPlatforms like Telegram, torrent web sites, and illegal portals like Tamilrockers are still operating. If the federal government has banned 36 porn sites and other digital platforms, why doesn\u2019t it ensure your complete apparatus of piracy is taken down too?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Nagrath also identified that \u2018Jana Nayagan,\u2019 directed by H Vinoth, couldn\u2019t meet its scheduled release date of January 9 since it was stuck on the certification stage. \u201cThe CBFC referred it to the Revising Committee. Earlier, producers could go to the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal [FCAT], but the federal government shut it down. The fate of Jana Nayagan has been hanging, while scenes from the film, which has been in CBFC\u2019s possession, have leaked online. While I\u2019m not making a direct allegation [against the CBFC], it amounts to this only. We\u2019re unable to tackle the issue of piracy. Producers are significant contributors to the PM\u2019s Make in India initiative. Why not help us too? The federal government should find the culprits and put them in jail.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The links hosting the leaked content have since been taken down.<\/p>\n The leak surfaced just ahead of Vijay\u2019s entry into politics for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. This has caused significant turmoil within the Tamil film industry. Chiranjeevi, Sivakarthikeyan, Suriya, GV Prakash Kumar and others have voiced their support for the makers, condemning piracy and illegal leaks.<\/p>\n Directed by HVinoth and produced by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan features Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju. Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani may also be present.
