Former Virginia lieutenant governor Justin Fairfax <\/b>and Cerina Fairfax<\/b><\/span> <\/b>had been separated on the time of their apparent murder-suicide<\/span>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has been an ongoing domestic dispute surrounding what appears to be a sophisticated or messy divorce. Up to now what we all know is what you realize,\u201d police chief Kevin Davis<\/b> said in an April 2026 press conference. \u201cThere appears to be divorce proceedings which have been ongoing.\u201d<\/p>\n

In accordance with Davis, Justin was \u201crecently served some paperwork\u201d associated together with his divorce from Cerina.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat apparently led to the incident,\u201d Davis told reporters, claiming that Justin shot Cerina \u201cseveral times\u201d of their house before shooting himself. \u201cEach of their children, teenagers \u2026 were in the home when it happened. That\u2019s horrible news for the family, actually a traumatic event for those children to pass though.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justin Fairfax and Cerina Fairfax, who met while attending Duke University, got married in June 2006. Justin and the dentist were married for twenty years and welcomed two children, Cameron and Carys<\/span>, before separating in 2025.<\/p>\n

In accordance with court documents<\/span><\/a> viewed by Us Weekly<\/i>, Cerina filed for divorce in July 2025. She claimed that she separated from Justin in June 2024 while they continued to reside under the identical roof.<\/p>\n

Justin Fairfax Asked to Dismiss Cerina Fairfax\u2019s Divorce Petition<\/b><\/h2>\n

Justin Fairfax, an attorney representing himself within the divorce, filed an opinion letter in January 2026.<\/p>\n

Within the letter viewed by Us<\/i>, Justin objected to Cerina\u2019s petition and claimed that she did not disclose her intentions to \u201cpermanently separate\u201d after they physically separated.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Justin] asserts that [Cerina] was required to expressly state in her grievance that she intended to permanently separate from him on June 1, 2024,\u201d the court letter reads. \u201cAs a substitute, she pled only that June 1, 2024, was the date of separation. [Cerina] responds that she needn’t plead her intent and will prove her intent at trial.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justin further identified that a Virginia resident can only file for divorce after \u201chaving lived separate and apart without interruption\u201d for one yr and \u201cprove an intent to permanently live separate.\u201d<\/p>\n

The court agreed to Justin\u2019s request for a demurrer. The remainder of the grievance had not been settled when Justin and Cerina died.<\/p>\n

Justin Fairfax and Cerina Fairfax Were Involved in a Domestic Dispute 4 Months Before Deaths<\/b><\/h2>\n

Justin Fairfax called the Fairfax, Virginia police department in January 2026 over an alleged domestic violence altercation with Cerina Fairfax. The police chief revealed in an April 2026 press conference that Justin claimed on the time that Cerina physically assaulted him.<\/p>\n
