Former Recent Zealand player Simon Doull said that Gujarat Titans (GT) batting all-rounder Glenn Phillips has been an enormous disappointment within the IPL throughout his profession. Doull said that after Phillips struggled with the bat in GT\u2019s thrilling win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 17 as well.<\/p>\n
With GT reaching towards a win, he scored around a 16-ball 19 before falling in the ultimate over with 4 runs still required. Phillips is averaging only 20.33 at a strike rate of 132.60 in five games to date this season.<\/p>\n
Doull said on Cricbuzz\u2019s post-match show,\u00a0\u201cThe run rate is the issue. They’re struggling to get going after they do get a chance. Phillips really struggled, and it just looks like there may be never an awesome tournament with the bat with him. What he has shown in Recent Zealand colours, we\u2019ve never seen on this tournament. They\u2019ve got issues there, but they\u2019ve won three in a row.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe one worry for GT is a 220-230 game on a very good pitch. When you’re chasing that type of rating, numbers 1 to six must perform. Have they got the flexibility to get 65 off the last five overs with Sundar, Phillips, Tewatia, and Shahrukh when the highest three have put them able where they’re 170 with five to go? There are teams within the competition able to getting 65 in the ultimate five. Are they one in every of them? That’s my only issue with them,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Simon Doull applauded GT captain Shubman Gill as top-of-the-line batters to look at as well. Gill also led GT\u2019s successful run-chase of 181 against KKR with a shocking 50-ball 86, including 8 fours and 4 maximums.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s aesthetically pleasing and such an attractive cricketer to look at. When he scores through the offside, I do know we love watching Virat Kohli\u2019s cover drive, but I like this guy\u2019s nearly as much. It’s silky smooth, especially when he stands tall. When he\u2019s going well, the one thing Shubman needs is a very good pitch with some bounce. The pace and the bounce assist the best way he plays. He times the ball in addition to anyone,\u201d again said Doull.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe understands his role is runs. His captaincy is just evolving on a regular basis. He has high-quality people around him in GT. If Shubman is bouncing ideas off Hayden, it\u2019s showing as he, like Haydos, has a presence on the crease when standing tall. Runs are his currency, and if he finally ends up with a 550 to 600-run season, they’re going to do pretty much,\u201d Simon Doull concluded.<\/p>\n
