Jamie Carragher says he expects Mikel Arteta to avoid the sack even when Arsenal finish as runners-up within the Premier League for a fourth successive season this term.<\/p>\n

Arsenal had the prospect to open up an imperious 12-point advantage over Manchester City earlier this month, but a shock defeat at home to Bournemouth stopped the Gunners of their tracks.<\/p>\n

The gap reduced to only three points on Sunday afternoon as City edged to a 2-1 win over the league leaders, with Erling Haaland scoring the decisive goal in front of a rapturous Etihad crowd.<\/p>\n

City \u2013 who’ve a game in hand over Arsenal \u2013 return to motion against lowly Burnley in two days\u2019 time and victory at Turf Moor would send Pep Guardiola\u2019s men top for the primary time since as far back at October.<\/p>\n

Arsenal play host to an out-of-sorts Newcastle of their next contest and a morale-boosting showing at Emirates may prove to be key if Mikel Arteta\u2019s side are to maintain their hopes of a primary title in 22 years alive.<\/p>\n

Speaking after Arsenal\u2019s setback in Manchester, a defiant Arteta insisted his \u2018belief\u2019 had not waned given the standard he sees from his players every day.<\/p>\n

On the 2 teams\u2019 respective run-ins, Carragher continued: \u2018City have gotten the harder fixtures, there\u2019s little doubt.<\/p>\n

\u2018But if you get to this stage and also you\u2019re in Arsenal\u2019s position, just trying to find a win from anywhere and the nerves are kicking in, the supporters are getting anxious, their next two games are at home within the Premier League, it almost doesn\u2019t matter who you play.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s more about you actually. We\u2019ve seen them lose to Bournemouth and most of the people would have said that was a game they need to win.<\/p>\n

Arsenal have managed only one win from their last six matches in all competitions, a wretched run that Carragher believes may have badly knocked confidence levels inside Arteta\u2019s squad.<\/p>\n

\u2018I just think City shall be so confident now, City, they\u2019ll expect to win,\u2019 the ex-England international went on.<\/p>\n

\u2018I don\u2019t think Arsenal shall be expecting to win all their games, but there\u2019s little doubt they\u2019ve got the better fixtures.<\/p>\n

\u2018I feel those games against Atletico Madrid will take quite a bit out of them physically and mentally. <\/p>\n

\u2018That\u2019s a giant thing with Arsenal if you watch them without delay, it\u2019s not only the power, it\u2019s physically how do they feel? It\u2019s not going to be easy.\u2019<\/p>\n

Based on Carragher, Sunday\u2019s top-of-the-table clash demonstrated the sizeable difference in quality between the respective attacks of Arsenal and City.<\/p>\n

\u2018If Arsenal do miss out I might put it all the way down to that,\u2019 he explained.<\/p>\n

Asked if it was \u2018now or never\u2019 for the Arsenal head coach, Carragher replied: \u2018Yes and no. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s a case that in the event that they didn\u2019t win the league then Mikel Arteta can be out of a job, nothing like that.<\/p>\n

\u2018But this does feel different than previous seasons because I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever felt they were the very best team within the league.<\/p>\n
