A Canadian woman has been killed and several other people injured after a person opened fire at a preferred historical site in Mexico.<\/p>\n

The shooting occurred at the highest of considered one of the traditional Teotihuac\u00e1n pyramids, 30 miles northeast of Mexico City, yesterday at 11.30am.<\/p>\n

The gunman, identified by authorities as Mexican national Julio C\u00e9sar Jasso Ram\u00edrez, then shot and killed himself.<\/p>\n

Two people were found dead, \u2018considered one of whom was likely the shooter,\u2019 the local security ministry of Mexico State said.<\/p>\n

Of the 13 injured, seven suffered gunshots, including two children aged six and 13 from Colombia and Brazil, a 37-year-old Colombian woman, a 29-year-old Canadian woman, a 32-year-old Russian man, a 29-year-old American man and a 61-year-old American woman.<\/p>\n

The opposite injured included 4 more US residents, a 55-year-old Brazilian woman and a 22-year-old Colombian woman.<\/p>\n

Their injuries were described as falls or abrasions in a casualty report <\/a>released by the authorities.<\/p>\n

Eight remain in hospital on the time of writing. <\/p>\n

The suspect was a person aged between 25 and 30 who climbed to the primary level of the Pyramid of the Moon, the second largest in Teotihuac\u00e1n, before opening fire. <\/p>\n

Video posted to social media shows tourists ducking at the underside because the sound of gunfire rings. <\/p>\n

A lady may be heard screaming, \u2018Call the police!\u2019, as a person may be seen on the structure with a bunch of individuals lying down nearby. <\/p>\n

A witness told the local news outlet NM\u00e1s<\/a> that she heard 20 shots and saw a tourist being shot.<\/p>\n

Tourist Laura Torres said: \u2018She was lying about halfway up the pyramid. This shouldn\u2019t have happened.<\/p>\n

Several people were held hostage through the ordeal.<\/p>\n

Torres said: \u2018After a short while, I saw him let one person down, a woman, he let her down, for a moment I assumed he was going to shoot her within the back, but no, thank God he let her go.\u2019<\/p>\n

Prosecutors in Mexico State\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0Ram\u00edrez acted alone. A firearm, a knife, and multiple rounds of ammunition were recovered on the scene.<\/p>\n

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on social media that an investigation into the incident has been launched. <\/p>\n

She added: \u2018What happened today in Teotihuac\u00e1n pains us deeply.\u2019<\/p>\n

The shooting comes as the federal government is preparing an immersive night show for the positioning as a part of the upcoming World Cup in Mexico City.<\/p>\n

Teotihuac\u00e1n, a city of pyramids and palaces that predates the Aztecs, was Mexico\u2019s second-most-popular archaeological site last yr, with 1.8 million visitors.<\/p>\n

A Canadian travel advisory <\/a>says residents must \u2018exercise a high degree of caution\u2019 while in Mexico.<\/p>\n
