Bryan Robson says Manchester United are more likely to come up against a brick wall in the event that they pursue a deal for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali this summer.<\/p>\n

Having revamped their misfiring attack with the addition of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko last summer, the Red Devils are set to prioritise strengthening their midfield when the transfer window opens for business.<\/p>\n

United\u2019s hierarchy had drawn up a shortlist of potential midfield signings 12 months ago, with the likes of Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba all heavily linked with moves to Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

But United\u2019s search ultimately got here to nothing, prompting Ruben Amorim to drop Bruno Fernandes back right into a deeper role in the primary half of the campaign \u2013 considered one of many choices that infuriated the fanbase.<\/p>\n

But based on United legend Robson, the Nottingham Forest star will undoubtedly be into consideration after an excellent yr for each club and country.<\/p>\n

Turning his attentions to United\u2019s current midfield options, Robson was keen to applaud Kobbie Mainoo on his return to the fold after the teen had been frozen out by Amorim.<\/p>\n

In accordance with Robson, the experience and warranted presence of Casemiro in Carrick\u2019s midfield has been key within the 21-year-old managing to finding his feet again at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

\u2018I just look back on the FA Cup final against Manchester City and Kobbie was outstanding in that game,\u2019 the ex-United and England captain said.<\/p>\n

If United manage to secure Champions League qualification this season, Robson sees no reason why Carrick shouldn’t be given the job on a full-time basis ahead of the 2026\/27 campaign.<\/p>\n

\u2018I feel Michael has done a fantastic job. He kept it pretty easy when he got here in, he put Harry Maguire back within the team as a centre-half, who I feel is our greatest centre-half,\u2019 Robson continued.<\/p>\n

\u2018Luke Shaw went back to left-back and I feel that\u2019s Luke\u2019s favourite position, he put Kobbie Mainoo in to enrich Casemiro, after which the forwards have been good buys.<\/p>\n

Should Carrick get the full-time job if Manchester United qualify for the Champions League?<\/h3>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\u2018The forwards have done well of their first seasons so the balance is there, it\u2019s pretty good.<\/p>\n

\u2018Michael is good and calm. Sometimes fans need to see a manager [barking orders]. Truthfully, I look back and when managers shout, you can not hear them.\u2019<\/p>\n

On Carrick, Robson went on: \u2018He\u2019s done great. I\u2019m not too sure how any games Michael\u2019s been in charge now (12) but I do know we\u2019ve only lose two in order that\u2019s good.<\/p>\n

\u2018From where we were to where Michael has taken us, the one thing Michael has got to now’s finish off the job and get us within the Champions League.<\/p>\n

\u2018If he gets us within the Champions League, there\u2019s no reason why Manchester United cannot give him the job and at the least give him a go for a few years.\u2019<\/p>\n
