The Vancouver Canucks are hopeful to have a GM named by the Draft Lottery<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Sekeres and Price<\/a><\/strong>: Darren Dreger said that the Vancouver Canucks hope to have a general manager in place by the draft lottery, to totally participate within the draft process.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, the hope is that they get something done across the draft lottery (May fifth), and there\u2019s reason behind that. I mean, you\u2019re talking about a comparatively small window of influence and impact here, right? On a company, especially one just like the Vancouver Canucks, given their position within the draft and all of that.<\/p>\n

So, how good wouldn’t it be in case your latest head of hockey operations, or on this case, the final manager, can take part in all scouting conversations leading as much as the draft. After which he can quickly undergo that crash course with the amateur scouts and everybody involved in that process with the Canucks, in order that he’s educated and feels a part of an important day, days of decision-making on the draft floor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe final word hire of a brand new general manager, I consider, shall be made by Francesco Aquilini.<\/p>\n

Now, that\u2019s to not say that Rutherford isn\u2019t going to have input. In fact, he\u2019s having, you understand, he\u2019s had input hourly on this process, including, you understand, compiling the list of candidates there already within the interview process.<\/p>\n

But my understanding is that they\u2019re going to going, to undergo the initial interviewing phase, after which they\u2019re going to chop that list pretty quickly. And could possibly be involved in in-person meetings with the shortlist of candidates as early as next week.<\/p>\n
