Arsenal have begun talks to sign Sporting CP left-back Maxi Araujo, in line with reports in Portugal.<\/p>\n

The Uruguay international is about to complete his second season with Sporting following his \u20ac13.5 million (\u00a311.3m) move from Mexican side Toluca in 2024.<\/p>\n

In accordance with Portuguese newspaper Record<\/a>, Araujo impressed Mikel Arteta during Sporting\u2019s two Champions League quarter-final games against Arsenal earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Arsenal have now made an initial approach with Araujo to debate a possible move to the Premier League this summer.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Arsenal are expected to face strong competition with each Manchester City and Manchester United focused on the 26-year-old.<\/p>\n

Sporting, meanwhile, remain in a powerful negotiating position as Araujo still has three years remaining on his contract, which also includes an \u20ac80m (\u00a369.3m) release clause.<\/p>\n

The Portuguese champions are said to be open to selling Araujo but will only take heed to transfer fees in excess of \u20ac50m (\u00a343.3m).<\/p>\n

Atletico Madrid have also been keeping tabs on Araujo\u2019s progress in Portugal ahead of the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n

Speaking before Sporting\u2019s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal within the Champions League, Araujo was asked concerning the prospect of facing Bukayo Saka and Noni Madueke.<\/p>\n

\u2018I consider that every one the Arsenal players are excellent. Each are amongst the most effective wingers on the earth, and for me it\u2019s a privilege to face either of them,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018I feel prepared, and whoever plays, it won\u2019t affect me. An important thing is that I\u2019m ready.\u2019<\/p>\n

Araujo can also be expected to be named in Uruguay\u2019s World Cup squad this summer where they may play Spain, Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia in Group H.<\/p>\n
