The Pittsburgh Penguins kept their season alive with a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 5 on Monday night at PPG Paints Arena, pulling the series back to 3-2 despite facing elimination in a matchup where home teams up 3-2 in a series have historically gone on to win only 22% of the time.<\/p>\n

The sport turned on a dime around Sidney Crosby, who had a tense scare within the second period after a shot from teammate Ryan Shea caught him on the left knee, forcing him out of the sport. Nonetheless, he returned shortly after, and finished with two assists, padding his postseason tally to 33 multi-assist games (fourth-most in NHL history behind Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, and Connor McDavid).<\/p>\n

Crosby also reached 100 profession playoff wins and has 21 points in 24 profession elimination games. He nearly scored late, hitting the post on an empty-net attempt.<\/p>\n

In his postgame remarks, Penguins first-year head coach Dan Muse had high praise<\/a>\u00a0for Crosby, saying:<\/p>\n

Pittsburgh opened scoring at 2:45 of the primary period when Elmer Soderblom scored his first profession playoff goal off Anthony Mantha and Parker Wotherspoon. The Penguins then stretched the result in 2-0 at 3:17 of the second period when Connor Dewar scored his second playoff goal off a Crosby assist.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia responded fairly quickly. Alex Bump scored 12 seconds later at 3:29, and Travis Sanheim tied the sport 2-2 at 15:06 with assists from Rasmus Ristolainen and Travis Konecny.<\/p>\n

Kris Letang netted the go-ahead goal at 17:12 of the second period, his second straight game-winning goal, bringing his profession playoff total to 25 goals (most amongst lively defensemen). The shot deflected off Bump, hit Flyers goalie Dan Vladar off each legs, and crossed the road. Letang also reached 92 profession playoff points, tying Bobby Orr for eighth all-time amongst defensemen in postseason points.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia outshot Pittsburgh 21-20 and likewise led in hits, 42-37, while each teams went 0-for-2 on the facility play.<\/p>\n
