In accordance with Jon Machota of The Athletic, in addition they <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jonmachota\/status\/2051083111690010998\">attempted to make a move up<\/a> to No. 9 overall in a deal that will\u2019ve affected their second first-round pick, as well. Machota also notes that, if the Cowboys hadn\u2019t been in a position to move back from twentieth to twenty third, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jonmachota\/status\/2051090863732764861\">they still would\u2019ve taken<\/a> UCF\u2019s <strong>Malachi Lawrence<\/strong>. If Lawrence was passed by 23, though, then they&#8217;d\u2019ve pivoted to Georgia linebacker <strong>CJ Allen<\/strong>, who ended up going to the Colts at No. 53.<\/li>\n<li>In 2025, there was a holdout of second-round picks as players pushed for guaranteed money that hadn\u2019t made it past the primary round until only recently. There was \u2014 and still is \u2014 some anticipation about where that line might get drawn on this 12 months\u2019s draft, but just a few team\u2019s have hurried to attract the road at their very own third-round picks.
