Mortal Kombat 2 has rather a lot to prove. While the primary film didn’t go down too badly with fans, there have been some big complaints, just like the bizarre explanation for everybody’s powers, and the inclusion of an original character over some favourites from the games.<\/p>\n

One other point of contention is that it was a really dude-heavy movie. The one woman fighting for Earthrealm was Sonya Blade, and while there have been a few other female characters, Mileena and Nitara, they were fighting for the bad guys. We didn’t see as much of them, they usually didn’t interact with Sonya much in any respect.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, that changes in Mortal Kombat 2. With Kitana, Jade, and Sindel joining the fight, that immediately expands the feminine solid. Higher yet, with Kitana and Jade being best friends within the lore, they share plenty of scenes together in the brand new film. And because it seems, this was an intentional move on the director’s part.<\/p>\n

\n Kitana And Jade Actors Praise The Inclusion Of More Female Characters In Mortal Kombat 2

“I feel it was very intentional to introduce among the female characters within the second movie,” says Adeline Rudolph, who plays Kitana.<\/p>\n

Co-star Tati Gabrielle, who plays Jade, agrees. She says that director Simon McQuoid desired to “not only herald, but honour” the feminine fighters of the Mortal Kombat series.<\/p>\n

“[McQuoid is] bringing these female characters in, showing that they do fit into this world,” Gabrielle says. “They don’t seem to be foreign to this world. They’re just as strong while still being just as vulnerable. Even of their vulnerability, they’ve strength. Simon, I feel, took incredible care with that, and at every turn, supported it.”<\/p>\n

This was touched on at a press conference for the film, too. Here, Sonya Blade actor Jessica McNamee shared the way it felt to have more female characters within the sequel.<\/p>\n

“I used to be so relieved to seek out that there have been more women on this one,” she says. “I walked off the set of that first one, and I had turn out to be a dude myself. It was so weird returning from that job and putting on a pair of heels. I used to be like, What are these?<\/p>\n

“There was such a special change on set, just like the dynamic was completely different this time around, simply because it was far more balanced.”<\/p>\n

Mortal Kombat 2 opens in theatres on May 8.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
