Filmmaker Karan Johar spoke about his journey in fashion and cinema ahead of his appearance on the Met Gala 2026 in Recent York. Karan Johar says Met Gala moment seems like \u201ccoming full circle\u201d in profession; wishes to take selfie with Sabrina Carpenter for daughter Roohi Johar<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Recalling his early years, Johar said, \u201cI did start as a dressing up designer. That was my primary passion after I was about 22 years old. After which I discovered on the sets of a movie that filmmaking is what really exhilarates me, excites me, inspires me.\u201d He added that while he moved on to turn out to be a director and producer, his reference to fashion has remained constant over time.<\/p>\n Johar also shared memories of his first exposure to fashion through magazines. \u201cI remember the origin of fashion in my life was Vogue. I remember reading my first fashion magazine that I read after I was all of 12 years old was Vogue. That point it wasn’t available in India, so I needed to go to a tiny shop that sold some old Vogue magazines,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Speaking concerning the significance of attending the Met Gala, Johar noted that it was an event he had followed for years. \u201cI all the time imagined what it might feel wish to be on that carpet that represents like a story with fashion and a lot talent and a lot artistry and hours of execution of every garment and ideation. I just feel like fashion is such a deep art form,\u201d he said. Yash and Roohi, they’re each nine. My daughter is obsessive about Sabrina Carpenter. If I can meet her and if I can take a selfie along with her, if that will be permissible, allowed, and if I’m not encroaching on her privacy, I feel my daughter will just, it’ll be the perfect gift to provide her,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Johar also confirmed that his outfit for the evening has been designed by Manish Malhotra. \u201cHe’s a legendary designer from India. He’s also my best friend. We have been collaborators on film perpetually. Every film that I’ve directed, he has actually designed for costumes. His name is Manish Malhotra.
