{"id":330062,"date":"2026-05-06T10:06:26","date_gmt":"2026-05-06T04:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebiztoday.news\/?p=330062"},"modified":"2026-05-06T10:06:26","modified_gmt":"2026-05-06T04:36:26","slug":"arsene-wenger-responds-to-arsenal-celebrations-after-atletico-madrid-win-football","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebiztoday.news\/index.php\/2026\/05\/06\/arsene-wenger-responds-to-arsenal-celebrations-after-atletico-madrid-win-football\/","title":{"rendered":"Arsene Wenger responds to Arsenal celebrations after Atletico Madrid win | Football"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t\t<\/div><figcaption>Arsene Wenger after Arsenal\u2019s win over Atletico Madrid (Picture: beIN SPORTS)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Arsene Wenger defended Arsenal\u2019s \u2018absolutely normal\u2019 celebrations after their Champions League semi-final win over Atletico Madrid but urged the players to quickly \u2018focus\u2019 on tasks ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Arsenal beat Atletico 2-1 on aggregate to succeed in their first Champions League final since 2006.<\/p>\n<p>The primary leg in Madrid finished 1-1 and Bukayo Saka scored the decisive goal on the Emirates Stadium to send Arsenal into the ultimate, which shall be held on May 30 in Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>The complete-time whistle sparked jubilant scenes contained in the Emirates, with the Arsenal squad continuing to rejoice for a while in front of their delighted supporters.<\/p>\n<p>Some rival fans were quick to query the celebrations and Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney even suggested they were barely excessive.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to the scenes on the Emirates Stadium, Rooney \u2013 a Champions League winner with United in 2008 \u2013 told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.primevideo.com\/offers\/nonprimehomepage\/ref=dv_web_force_root\">Prime Video<\/a>: \u2018They haven\u2019t won it yet.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I feel the celebrations are just a little bit too heavy. Have a good time whenever you win\u2026but no, they deserve it.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"594\" height=\"396\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GettyImages-2274174227.jpg?quality=90&#038;strip=all&#038;w=594\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28250206\" alt=\"FBL-EUR-C1-ARSENAL-ATLETICO\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\">\t<\/div><figcaption>Jubilant scenes contained in the Emirates Stadium (Picture: Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But legendary Arsenal manager Wenger described the celebrations as \u2018absolutely normal\u2019 and was pleased to see the players and fans express their delight.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, he reminded the squad that \u2018the subsequent step\u2019 for them is to win their first Champions League ahead of a final against either PSG or Bayern Munich.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I feel Arsenal wanted wanted it a bit\u00a0greater than Atleti and so they were more decisive within the duals,\u2019 Wenger said on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beinsports.com\/en-mena\">beIN SPORTS<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"594\" height=\"377\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GettyImages-2274701274.jpg?quality=90&#038;strip=all&#038;w=594\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28250216\" alt=\"Arsenal FC v Atletico de Madrid - UEFA Champions League 2025\/26 Semi Final Second Leg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\">\t<\/div><figcaption>Mikel Arteta after Arsenal\u2019s semi-final win (Picture: Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u2018We said before the sport that to go to the\u00a0final\u00a0they needed to be strong defensively and so they\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0concede\u00a0a goal tonight.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018They\u00a0played\u00a0a team who for 45 minutes absolutely needed to attain a\u00a0goal\u00a0and so they\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0give them a probability.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I consider it\u00a0shows how strong Arsenal are\u00a0defensively\u00a0and the way\u00a0disciplined they&#8217;re, as well a bit the constraints of Atletico, who weren&#8217;t ok in the ultimate third.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018In the long run\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a\u00a0well-deserved\u00a0win for Arsenal,\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0little question they were the higher team over the 2 legs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018They\u00a0rejoice\u00a0well tonight which is\u00a0normal\u00a0but you should focus already on the ultimate and the subsequent games.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The\u00a0celebration\u00a0is\u00a0deserved\u00a0and happiness\u00a0is normal \u2013 absolutely normal \u2013 but the subsequent step is to go to the ultimate and win in.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"594\" height=\"396\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/GettyImages-2274701346.jpg?quality=90&#038;strip=all&#038;w=594\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28250218\" alt=\"Arsenal FC v Atletico de Madrid - UEFA Champions League 2025\/26 Semi Final Second Leg\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\">\t<\/div><figcaption>Diego Simeone\u2019s Atletico Madrid fell short (Picture: Getty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After becoming the primary Arsenal manager since Wenger to succeed in a Champions League final, Mikel Arteta said: \u2018It\u2019s an incredible night to live this type of moment with the players and everybody on the club, it\u2019s an incredible feeling.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It is smart with all the things we do and we undergo and I see so many joyful faces and happy with what we\u2019re doing.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It was unbelievable right from the start \u2013 the supporters waiting for us outside the stadium, the energy and keenness that they put in so it was just great to win this.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018They set the standards and we\u2019ve tried to meet up with them.
