AEW’s Will\u00a0Ospreay recently returned to motion in NJPW to grow to be the brand new NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team\u00a0Champions alongside his United Empire faction. Ospreay notably suffered a neck injury that threatened his profession last yr, and in an interview with Forbes,<\/a>\u00a0he looked back at his recovery process.<\/p>\n

Ospreay admitted that his morale was up and down over the months he was recovering, but even now he’s getting by and attempting to adjust following surgery.<\/p>\n

“This was the primary surgery I’ve ever had, and it turned out to be one of the crucial major surgeries you may have,” he noted, adding that he’s had to regulate his wrestling style because of this of the surgery as well.<\/p>\n

The previous AEW International Champion explained that his range of motion has been affected by his surgery, and he specifically won’t be doing something like a Shooting Star Press anymore due to rotation his head would need to undergo. Ospreay then admitted that there have been moments where he considered entirely stepping away from pro wrestling due to his injury.<\/p>\n

“It was all the time a conversation, and I had great phone calls with my surgeon, Dr. Wallace, who deserves the largest shoutout because he’s given me a second likelihood at having a profession doing this,” he explained.\u00a0“Ten years ago, this was the variety of thing that medically disqualified you from wrestling. So the proven fact that medical science has come up to now, man, I’m just grateful and so blessed.”<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Adam Copeland is probably the greatest examples of a wrestler who suffered a neck injury, was forced to retire, made a seemingly miraculous recovery, and returned to pro wrestling. For this reason, Will\u00a0Ospreay claimed he specifically spoke to\u00a0Copeland quite a bit, especially because Copeland had undergone three of the identical surgeries Ospreay had.<\/p>\n

“He gave me the entire backstory of when he discovered about his surgery and what was going to occur,” he claimed. “He gave me his number to maintain involved because he knows it could actually get really depressing at times.”<\/p>\n

Copeland was not the one person Ospreay claims he reached out to, as he added that he’d speak to Kyle O’Reilly, Roderick\u00a0Strong, and Bryan\u00a0Danielson \u2014 all of whom had suffered severe neck injuries across their careers.<\/p>\n

“Everybody’s just been super cool because it truly is such a superb group of individuals backstage,” he said. “I feel like news got around in a short time, and it was certainly one of those things where it was really lovely having the support of my peers and everybody wishing for me to come back back.”<\/p>\n

While he’s back within the ring today, Ospreay added that doing something so simple as hitting the ropes gave him a way of hysteria.<\/p>\n

“There was an element of me that was like, ‘Have I been running the ropes mistaken my entire profession, or is that this simply because my neck muscles have not built up enough strength yet?'” he admitted, explaining that neck strength is crucial when running the ropes. “Nevertheless it was weird things too, like doing forward rolls or back rolls, where I had such great flexibility and range of movement before the surgery.”<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/article><\/div>\n
