Kimmel was the primary to go. He emphasized the strength of late-night\u2019s fanbase, which he experienced firsthand when \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d was briefly suspended.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe&#8217;ve got quite a lot of shows. 30,000 people watching each, and it adds up,\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cPeople watch us on YouTube now. People have quite a lot of different options and so they keep coming to us. I&#8217;ll let you know, after I got knocked off the air for a number of days, people canceled Disney+. Why aren\u2019t people canceling Paramount+? Since you never had it in the primary place?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tColbert then posed one other query to the group. He asked his fellow hosts if, as young comedians, they ever thought they\u2019d be \u201cdoing a job that the President of the USA would have strong feelings about?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tKimmel once more took the lead, referring to his recent spat with First Lady Melania Trump. He said, \u201cYou recognize what\u2019s even weirder? Doing a job that his wife has strong feelings about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMeyers quipped back, \u201cMost of us have avoided that part.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOliver then recalled the moment he came upon Kimmel was in hot water with the First Lady via their late-night group chat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe \u201cLast Week Tonight\u201c host said, laughing, \u201cIt\u2019s an incredible thing to get, in a bunch text, a text from Jimmy saying, \u2018Oh, boy.\u2019 After which an image of Melania mad at him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMeyers then chimed in again, saying that he likes it when President Donald Trump posts on Truth Social during his show since it means he\u2019s tuning in live, and in that way, supporting the show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe thing I like, he posts when the show airs, and I need to say I appreciate that he&#8217;s watching linear television,\u201d Meyers said. \u201cIf I&#8217;d make my case for late-night, it\u2019s that leaders of the free world are watching it when it airs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCBS revealed it was cancelling \u201cThe Late Show\u201d in July 2025 and cited the move as a \u201cfinancial decision.\u201d Nevertheless, some have speculated that Colbert was pulled to assist smooth out the merger between Paramount, CBS\u2019 parent company, and David Ellison\u2019s Skydance. At the moment, the merger was still awaiting approval from the FCC, and by proxy, President Trump, a vocal critic of Colbert and late-night as an entire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFormer \u201cLate Show\u201d host David Letterman, who shall be amongst Colbert\u2019s final guests, has been one of the outspoken detractors of CBS\u2019 decision. In a recent interview with Recent York Times journalist Jason Zinoman, Letterman slammed the network\u2019s leadership as \u201clying weasels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cHe was dumped since the people selling the network to Skydance said, \u2018Oh no, there\u2019s not going to be any trouble with that guy. We\u2019re going to maintain the show. We\u2019re just going to throw that into the deal. When will the ink on the check dry?\u2019\u201d Letterman said. \u201cI\u2019m just going to go on record as saying: They\u2019re lying. Let me just add one other thing, Jason.
