Vladimir Putin\u2019s puffy face and swollen cheeks have captured attention after he was spotted on the Victory Day parade in Moscow.<\/p>\n

Fearing a coup or assassination by Ukraine, he was branded a \u2018deeply frightened, ageing dictator\u2019 at the massive parade this weekend.<\/p>\n

Ukrainian commentator Anton Gerashchenko pointed to 1 unflattering image of the 73-year-old\u2019s swollen\u00a0cheeks, observing: \u2018The face of a \u2018victor\u2019 and the leader of a \u2018superpower\u2019. It seems sanctions have even reached\u00a0Putin\u2019s Botox.\u2019<\/p>\n

His lopsided face and \u2018melting wax\u2019 face have been cause for concern amongst his supporters and critics.<\/p>\n

In 2022, reports from contained in the Kremlin said that Putin had begun to make use of Botox \u2018heavily\u2019 amid concerns for his health.<\/p>\n

Unconfirmed reports years ago, which resurfaced this 12 months, have\u00a0suggested the leader has cancer<\/strong>, with an FSB officer claiming he had\u00a0\u2018not more than two to 3 years to remain alive\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Normally, Russia\u2019s Victory Day parade is a big fanfare event with tanks, nuclear warheads and 1000’s of soldiers marching in Moscow.<\/p>\n

This 12 months, nonetheless, was very scaled back, with some commentators saying the smaller event shows Putin is losing his power.<\/p>\n

Alexey Kopytko said: \u2018On the parade, the centre of attention was not the leader of a superpower, but a drained old man with shifty eyes whom they still tolerate. And he senses it.<\/p>\n

\u2018Either\u00a0Putin\u00a0himself is afraid, or he\u2019s being wound up and intimidated this fashion \u2014 which causes him to develop into fearful and paranoid.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Victory Day Parade, which commemorates the defeat of Nazi\u00a0Germany\u00a0within the Second World War, is Russia\u2019s largest military holiday.<\/p>\n

The Soviet Union lost 27 million people in 1941-45 in what it calls the Great Patriotic War, an infinite sacrifice that left a deep scar within the national psyche and stays a rare point of consensus within the nation\u2019s divisive history under Communist rule.<\/p>\n

Victory\u00a0Day\u00a0parades on Red Square have involved a broad array of heavy weapons \u2013 from armoured vehicles to nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles \u2013 yearly since 2008.<\/p>\n
