On a month-to-month basis, April prices rose 0.6 per cent from March as gasoline prices rose 5.4 per cent in the course of the month; the month-over-month gain was down from 0.9 per cent increase from February to March.<\/p>\n<p>Labor Department figures showed that gasoline prices are up greater than 28 per cent in comparison with a 12 months ago. Kevin Warsh, the president\u2019s hand-picked selection to succeed Powell, is anticipated to be confirmed by the Senate this week; however it\u2019s unclear whether Warsh would pursue lower rates given the uncertainties arising from the war \u2014 or whether he could persuade his colleagues on the Fed\u2019s rate-setting committee to go along if he tried.<\/p>\n<p>Americans are getting squeezed by gasoline prices which have shot past $4.50 a gallon. Some corporations are also beginning to feel the pain.
