He\u2019s been a healthy scratch through the playoffs and his behind Conor Timmins and Logan Stanley. The Sabres even have prospect Radim Mrtka within the pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>Word is Kesselring isn&#8217;t a blissful camper, and perhaps the Sabres would move within the offseason for a bottom-six forward. The Oilers sent Kesselring to the Coyotes within the Nick Bjugstad deal on the deadline a number of years ago. The Oilers won\u2019t be the one ones in search of right-handed defensemen.<\/p>\n<p>One other player the Oilers should take a look at is Detroit Red Wings goaltending prospect <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/cossase01.html?utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_source=nhlrumors.com&#038;utm_campaign=2026-05-12_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sebastian Cossa<\/a>. Under different management, the Oilers desired to draft him in 2021, however the Wings moved up and drafted him. Cossa isn\u2019t starting within the playoffs for Grand Rapids (AHL) and the Wings signed fellow prospect Trey Augustine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nhlrumors.com\/a-trade-that-would-help-the-oilers-and-the-avs-will-have-cap-issues\/2026\/05\/11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Trade That Would Help the Oilers, and the Avs Will Have Cap Issues<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, Cossa has only played one NHL game, but he has 123 AHL games under his belt. Would the Oilers be okay with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/j\/jarrytr01.html?utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_source=nhlrumors.com&#038;utm_campaign=2026-05-12_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tristan Jarry<\/a> \u2013 Cossa tandem, or another 1B as an option?<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"the-san-jose-sharks-and-the-no-2-pick\"><strong>The San Jose Sharks and the No. 2 pick<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7261513\/2026\/05\/08\/sharks-nhl-draft-lottery-pick-2026\/\"><strong>Mark Lazerus of The Athletic<\/strong><\/a>: The San Jose Sharks moved from No. 9 to the second overall within the 2026 NHL trade after the draft lottery. They&#8217;ll have a top two pick for the third 12 months in a row \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/celebma01.html?utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_source=nhlrumors.com&#038;utm_campaign=2026-05-12_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Macklin Celebrini<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/misami01.html?utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_source=nhlrumors.com&#038;utm_campaign=2026-05-12_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Michael Misa<\/a>. They picked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/s\/smithwi01.html?utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_source=nhlrumors.com&#038;utm_campaign=2026-05-12_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Will Smith<\/a> at No. 4 back in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The safest pick at No. 2, and consensus is winger Ivar Stenberg, who&#8217;s already playing against men within the SHL. The Sharks are already loaded with young forwards and in the online.<\/p>\n<p>Could the Sharks pick a defenseman at No. 2? The Canucks could take a look at a middle in Caleb Malhotra. The Blackhawks wouldn\u2019t mind Stenberg dropping to No. 4.\u00a0 Defenseman options could be Carson Carels, Chase Reid, and Keaton Verhoeff.<\/p>\n<p>With the free agent market looking a bit thin \u2013 going from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/r\/raddyda01.html?utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_source=nhlrumors.com&#038;utm_campaign=2026-05-12_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Darren Raddysh<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/c\/carlsjo01.html?utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_source=nhlrumors.com&#038;utm_campaign=2026-05-12_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">John Carlson<\/a> on the blue line, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/t\/tuchal01.html?utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_source=nhlrumors.com&#038;utm_campaign=2026-05-12_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Alex Tuch<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hockey-reference.com\/players\/m\/manthan01.html?utm_medium=linker&#038;utm_source=nhlrumors.com&#038;utm_campaign=2026-05-12_hr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Anthony Mantha<\/a> up front.
