NCIS: Sydney<\/em> season 3 ended with one case seemingly closing and one other up within the air \u2014 literally \u2014 but it surely\u2019s the possible romance between Mackey and JD that has fans talking.<\/p>\n

Warning: Spoilers below from NCIS: Sydney season 3, episodes 19 and 20.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Throughout the two-part season 3 finale, which aired on Tuesday, May 12, fans watched as Special Agent Michelle Mackey (Olivia Swann<\/strong>) took down The Collective\u2019s lead man, Lee Meyers (Angus Sampson<\/strong>), before corrupt government official US Drug Czar John Callaghan fled Australia with the drug dealer\u2019s intel.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe gets the last word with Meyers. So I feel in Mackey\u2019s world, that\u2019s successful,\u201d Swann, 33, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> of the two-part conclusion that resulted in Meyers being back in custody. \u201cWe do leave a bit form of cliffhanger for things to return, which is all the time exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swann noted that the cliffhanger has rather a lot to do with Callaghan escaping on a non-public plane after he orchestrated a prisoner switch \u2014 Meyers for Mackey\u2019s ex and the daddy of her child, Ryan Brady (Ryan Panizza<\/strong>) \u2014 that gets messy. The excellent news? Mackey planted her cellphone on the plane before jumping off with Ryan in her arms.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel her decision to do this is, again, a really form of maverick rogue move,\u201d Swann explained. \u201cAnd I feel prefer it was just done within the spur of the moment form of thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress added that Mackey \u201cteasing JD\u201d by playing coy with what happened to her phone is \u201cjust so very Mackey\u201d and a story line that \u201cmight be something that hopefully we see\u201d when season 4 premieres in 2027.<\/p>\n

While the motion comes first on NCIS: Sydney<\/em>, Swann teased that Mackey\u2019s undeniable chemistry with Jim \u201cJD\u201d Dempsey (Todd Lasance<\/strong>), which is obvious throughout the finale, might be touched upon next season as well. (During Mackey\u2019s son Trey\u2019s 18th birthday bash, she tells JD, he\u2019s a \u201ccatch\u201d and so they exchange a cheeky look.)<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re really focusing more on character connections and really constructing those this season,\u201d Swann confirmed to Us<\/em>. \u201cSo, that very much centers around Mackey and JD. Take with that what you’ll.\u201d<\/p>\n

She identified that viewers saw \u201c rather a lot more closeness between the 2 of them\u201d during season 3, including seeing their \u201ctrust consistently growing\u201d and their bond \u201cdeepening.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to seeing where that goes in [season] 4,\u201d Swann confessed, teasing that if Mackey and JD turn out to be a pair they \u201cperhaps could be surprised at how much their protection level would shift.\u201d<\/p>\n

She explained, \u201cI feel plenty of what they’ve may be very unspoken and form of subconscious with one another. If that were to shift into something more overt, I feel they\u2019d form of be taken by surprise at how form of big and deep the sentiments could be.\u201d<\/p>\n
