The previous Queen of Denmark is \u2018drained but in good spirits\u2019 after she was taken to hospital following a heart attack.<\/p>\n

Queen Margrethe was rushed to Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen\u2019s largest public and teaching hospital, on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The 86-year-old will remain within the hospital over the weekend for remark and further tests, the royal household said in a press release.<\/p>\n

It read: \u2018Her Majesty Queen Margrethe has been admitted to Rigshospitalet this afternoon resulting from a heart attack.<\/p>\n

Despite stepping back from the throne in 2024 \u2013 making her the primary Danish sovereign to willingly accomplish that in almost 900 years \u2013 Margrethe stays Denmark\u2019s longest-reigning monarch, having worn the crown for 52 years.<\/p>\n

Citing health as considered one of the explanations for her abdication, she said in an address on Latest Yr\u2019s Eve 2023 that she had undergone \u2018extensive back surgery\u2019 before she stepped down.<\/p>\n

She said: \u2018The whole lot went well, due to the competent health personnel, who took care of me.<\/p>\n

But she has been hospitalised on multiple occasions since her surgery. She previously needed to cancel an official appearance after she suffered a fall at her home of Fredensborg Palace in Zealand.<\/p>\n

She was again forced to tug out of a royal engagement when she contracted a chilly last 12 months.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause of this of the cold HM Queen Margrethe has contracted, it has been decided that the Queen might be admitted to Rigshospitalet for remark as a precaution,\u201d the Danish Royal House said in a press release.<\/p>\n
