It\u2019s been 4 days since Netflix released \u2018The Roast of Kevin Hart<\/strong>\u2018 and the web remains to be sounding off about it! Tony Hinchcliffe<\/strong>, specifically, is catching heat for what many are calling a tasteless joke referencing the death of George Floyd<\/strong>. And the backlash is coming from greater than just fans and viewers! Celebrities like Tamika D. Mallory<\/strong> and Sukihana<\/strong> are voicing their disappointment. Floyd\u2019s family and friends, including his brother, Terrence Floyd<\/strong>, and shut friend, Stephen Jackson<\/strong>, are also speaking out.<\/p>\n During his set, Hinchcliffe reportedly\u00a0referenced the brutal death George suffered on May 25, 2020. On that day, Chauvin knelt on Floyd\u2019s neck for 9 minutes during an arrest in Minnesota, whilst he repeatedly said he couldn\u2019t breathe. In 2021, a state court convicted him of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. His sentence was 22.5 years in prison, which he’s serving concurrently with a further 21-year sentence for pleading guilty to violating Floyd\u2019s constitutional rights. His death launched a movement against police brutality, dubbed \u2018Black Lives Matter.\u2019<\/p>\n Still, despite that context, Tony Hinchcliffe used the horrendous death as a punchline, live to tell the tale Netflix and Kevin Hart was cackling in response.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Black community is so pleased with you right away. Moreover, \u2018The Kevin Hart Roast\u2019 is reportedly the second roast at which Tony has cracked a George Floyd joke. He did the identical thing in 2024 during Tom Brady\u2019s roast, saying that Rob Gronkowski looks like \u201cthe ultimate boss in George Floyd: The Video Game,\u201d per the Star Tribune<\/a>. To this point, it doesn\u2019t appear that Hinchcliffe has addressed the backlash over his recent or past controversial jokes, leaving critics to query whether he has a pattern.<\/p>\n Speaking with \u2018The Breakfast Club\u2019s Loren Lorosa, Terrence Floyd<\/strong> slammed Tony for presenting his brother\u2019s death as comedy. He said Kevin Hart should\u2019ve shut down the joke, especially on condition that he attended George Floyd\u2019s funeral in Minnesota. \u201cA number of it just felt argh\u2026it wasn\u2019t tasteful,\u201d<\/strong> he said. Terrence also shared that George Floyd\u2019s daughter often has to cope with the fallout from controversies involving her father\u2019s name, especially near his death anniversary.<\/p>\n \u201cThat is crazy. We\u2019re upset but I\u2019m focusing more on the well-being of my niece,\u201d Terrence said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n Meanwhile, George Floyd\u2019s close friend, Stephen Jackson, also addressed the joke via social media. No person got up? No person said\u2026that is my cue, I\u2019m leaving?\u201d<\/strong> she said.<\/p>\n As mentioned, Tamika D. Mallory also released a press release slamming Tony Hinchcliffe\u2019s jokes. She said there was \u201cnothing funny\u201d about George\u2019s murder.<\/p>\n \u201cAllowing that white man or some other man to arise there and disrespect US, while laughing, is disgusting.
