The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit<\/em> season 27 finale proved that Mariska Hargitay<\/strong>\u2019s Capt. Olivia Benson is correct where she must be.<\/p>\n

Things got here to a head for the squad within the Thursday, May 14, episode \u2014 titled \u201cMonster\u201d \u2014 as Benson went head-to-head with Chief Kathryn Tynan (Noma Dumezweni<\/strong>) for one final showdown.<\/p>\n

Earlier this season, Tynan suspended Benson from her role as SVU captain. Within the interim, newcomer Detective Jake Griffin (Corey Cott<\/strong>) was attempting to dig up dirt on Tynan to assist put an end to the stress. Because Tynan became a surrogate parent to Griffin after his father\u2019s death within the line of duty, they’d an in depth relationship. Nevertheless, Griffin discovered on Thursday that Tynan helped his dad (who might need been a grimy cop) cover up a murder.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere within the episode, Griffin got shot within the line of duty. When Tynan arrived on the hospital, Tynan threatened Benson\u2019s job for putting her team at risk.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll have your badge for this,\u201d Tynan told Benson. \u201cYour profession is over, and I’m not sorry about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Benson replied, \u201cI don\u2019t think that\u2019s going to occur.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was then revealed that Griffin had recorded the conversation with Tynan regarding his father, so it was really Tynan\u2019s profession on the road.<\/p>\n

Benson made it clear that she had no intention of using the recording but refused to let Tynan \u201cwreck\u201d her profession.<\/p>\n

SVU<\/em> showrunner Michele Fazekas<\/strong> told People<\/em><\/a> ahead of the finale that she wanted viewers to know that the tip of Benson\u2019s profession is on the horizon.<\/p>\n

\u201cMariska\u2019s been on the show for 27 years. You\u2019ve got to be pondering, \u2018That is going to finish in some unspecified time in the future,\u2019 and so let\u2019s not ignore that,\u201d she said. \u201cLet\u2019s go toward that.\u201d<\/p>\n

When crafting season 27, Fazekas wanted Benson to disclose why she\u2019s still doing this job.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like, \u2018I\u2019m doing this because I can\u2019t do anything,’\u201d Fazekas said. \u201cAnd so she somewhat recommits herself.\u201d<\/p>\n
