Director Jon Favreau<\/strong> is hoping that audiences show their love for Baby Yoda when \u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu\u201d hits theaters later this week. The film follows three seasons of \u201cThe Mandalorian,\u201d which first debuted on Disney+ in 2019. Mockingly, that very same yr was the last time that a \u201cStar Wars\u201d film \u2013 2019\u2019s \u201cThe Rise of Skywalker\u201d \u2013 was shown in theaters. Although the last installment within the Skywalker Saga was divisive, to say the least, Lucasfilm is hoping that \u201cThe Mandalorian and Grogu\u201d will appeal to audiences, especially as a result of the inclusion of Baby Yoda.<\/p>\n

In keeping with Favreau, there\u2019s a difference between \u201cDisney cute\u201d and \u201cStar Wars cute,\u201d and he has no problem admitting that even cute things in a galaxy far, far-off can look somewhat \u201cweird.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe lovable stuff in \u2018Star Wars\u2019 tends to be somewhat weird-looking,\u201d Favreau told CBS News<\/a> while promoting his latest film. \u201cIt\u2019s not like \u2018Disney cute,\u2019 it\u2019s \u2018Star Wars cute.\u2019 And so, he\u2019s got weird little hairs and sharp little teeth in there and wrinkly skin, and claws!\u201d<\/p>\n

The detailed construction of the puppets was intentional. \u201cThere\u2019s an analog, handmade feel to quite a lot of the characters and quite a lot of the costumes and quite a lot of the puppets from \u2018Star Wars,’\u201d he explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although Grogu was created to appeal to a younger audience, Favreau admitted that he didn\u2019t realize how big the character was until he saw the enormous balloon in the course of the Macy\u2019s Thanksgiving Day Parade.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t realize quite what a phenomenon it could be. After which after we saw the balloon within the Macy\u2019s Thanksgiving Day Parade, that\u2019s when it type of \u2013 as a Recent Yorker \u2013 it really hit me,\u201d Favreau explained. \u201cLike, \u2018Wow! This has really hit one other level.\u2019 The entire thing\u2019s surreal.\u201d<\/p>\n

Favreau grew up in Queens together with his father, but he never thought that becoming an actor was a possibility for him. Still, with the encouragement of his father, he dropped out of school and began taking improv classes in Chicago.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy dad took me to see it, I sat by his side, he pointed things out and explained to me how cool it was that the X-wings had oil stains,\u201d he recalled, as per PEOPLE<\/a> magazine. \u201cHe later taught me about [Akira] Kurosawa and all of George Lucas\u2019 influences, and he opened the door for me to like not only\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0but cinema.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an emotional full circle moment, Favreau shared, \u201cI sat on my dad\u2019s side 49 years ago watching\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0for the primary time, [and] tonight I\u2019m getting to take a seat next to my dad and watch this.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGame of Thrones\u201d star Pedro Pascal<\/strong> is returning to his role because the titular Mandalorian, but many fans are excited to see \u201cAlien\u201d star Sigourney Weaver<\/strong> join a galaxy far, far-off. \u201cThe Bear\u201d star Jeremy Allen White<\/strong> has also lent his voice to Rotta the Hutt, who fans might remember from the unique \u201cClone Wars\u201d movie.<\/p>\n

The plot synopsis reads: \u201cThe evil Empire has fallen, but Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. Because the fledgling Recent Republic works to guard all the things the Riot fought for, they enlist the assistance of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.\u201d<\/p>\n
