It was a remake of the Malayalam film Aniyathipraavu (1997). It was the Tamil film industry that propelled her to stardom, providing her with a wide selection of roles. A five-time recipient of the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress, Jyotika is amongst probably the most successful actors. The truth is, her stardom soared within the 2000s, in order that she often matched the recognition of her male contemporaries.

While she has appeared in several Hindi movies through the years, Jyotika recently admitted that she wouldn’t have achieved as much success had she limited herself to Bollywood. Although her debut movies in each Hindi and Tamil didn’t perform well on the box office, Jyotika explained that, while her Hindi movies immediately stopped offering her work, quite a few opportunities began coming her way in Tamil.

Jyotika On How Her Transient Bollywood Profession Ended

“I actually have done certain movies (in South) after I was young, which I actually don’t know if I’d have had those decisions if I were here (in Bollywood). My first Hindi film didn’t do well on the box office, and the doors were immediately shut for me. At the identical time, my first Tamil film also didn’t do well on the box office, but they checked out my work, and I got flooded by film offers after that,” she said during a conversation with Times Entertainment.

She shared that the South Indian film industry has provided her with a wide range of roles since her debut. Jyotika added, “I feel, I’ll not have received those sorts of opportunities here.” She also identified that the regional industries within the South are still working on mastering the art of writing for older women as Hindi cinema does now.

“Once I returned to Bollywood in my 40s, I felt that the best way they’re writing for girls here, we still should explore that space within the South. Female characters aged 40 and above are sensibly written here. So, each Bollywood and the South industry have their pluses and minuses,” she explained.

About Jyotika

Jyotika is currently preparing for the discharge of her Amazon Prime Video film, System, directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari.
