Nevertheless, the previous RAW GM advised Mick Foley to not compete within the ring in AEW. Bischoff said,

“I believe Mick Foley as a part of the AEW brand is a fantastic idea. He’s such a talented guy. He’s so good on the mic and he’s a fantastic storyteller. He knows instinctively how one can get people over. You don’t should teach him anything—he can add, live, improv, follow a script. He’s a extremely super talented guy. And clearly, the name value, the credibility, the legacy that comes with him has great value.”

“Please don’t get within the ring. Please don’t try this, Mick. I’ll support him whatever he does because I actually, really respect him. But I hope, because I respect Mick, that he allows us the privilege of remembering him when he was capable of do some unbelievable things within the ring. That’s the memory I believe most individuals want of Mick Foley.”

“We’ll get as much of Mick as we will behind the desk or interacting with talent. But please don’t do it within the ring. If it’s an angle—something happens outside the ring and there’s some physicality—that’s all cool, and that’s Mick. But once you speak about seeing him within the ring for a 12-, 15-, or 20-minute match. That’s the part where it gets tough.”

Bischoff Doesn’t Imagine Foley’s AEW Appearance Is For The Money

Moreover, Bischoff noted that Foley being an element of AEW will not be for the cash. The veteran continued,

“And here’s what’s interesting—Mick doesn’t need the cash. He’s famously good together with his money. He’s probably set for generations. So it’s not financial.”

“Mick is considered one of those guys who just loves it and may’t get that needle out of his arm—and by that I mean his connection to the live audience. His ability to attach and create emotion is addictive. When you develop that neural pathway, it becomes something you’ve to feed.”

“Simply because you walk away from the ring or the stage doesn’t mean that pathway disappears—it just waits until it finds a possibility again. After which—whether it’s Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Roddy Piper, Muhammad Ali—guys at the highest who possibly should’ve stopped, but didn’t. Not because that they had to—but because they couldn’t.”

“Let’s hope Mick does. Let’s hope he gets his fix being on camera, having fun, and doing things that aren’t going to beat him up.”

Tony Khan Reflects On Foley Joining AEW

During a recent Double or Nothing 2026 media call, Tony Khan shared his thoughts on Foley’s upcoming AEW debut. Khan said,

“I’m very excited that Mick Foley is joining AEW, and I cannot wait to see Cactus Jack back on TBS, and I’m very excited to have him at Double or Nothing this Sunday as a part of The Buy In, and we’re just thrilled Mick’s gonna be co-hosting the event with Renee (Paquette). They’re good friends, and once I suggested this to Mick, he thought it was a fantastic idea, and he’s really thrilled about it because we’re big fans of Mick and Mick loves pro wrestling… He’s gonna bring a lot knowledge and insight to the wrestlers backstage and to the printed, starting this Sunday…

Moreover, Khan revealed whether the previous WWE World Champion will wrestle in AEW. He said,

“I can’t speak for Mick Foley as as to if he’d need to wrestle or if he’s going to wrestle anytime soon, but when he ever does, I’d love for him to do it in AEW. But I also don’t wanna put him in a situation by which he’ll be uncomfortable. I would like him to be ok with this, and I do know he’s taken so many big hits and had such an incredible profession with so many spectacular moments, and physically, I’d ever only ask him to wrestle if he felt as much as it and that he could live as much as the physical demand.”

Mick Foley is slated to make his official AEW debut through the Double or Nothing 2026 pay-per-view event.
