Friday that the Ebola outbreak in Congo is \u201cspreading rapidly\u201d and poses a \u201cvery high\u201d risk on the national level.<\/p>\n<p>WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the UN health agency was revising its assessment to \u201cvery high\u201d throughout the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which had previously been deemed high.<\/p>\n<p>The danger stays high for regional spread and low at global levels, he told reporters in Geneva.<\/p>\n<p>Ghebreyesus, who <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DrTedros\/status\/2057786743084953626\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">referred to the Ebola outbreak as \u201cdeeply worrisome,\u201d<\/a> said 82 cases have now been confirmed in Congo, with seven confirmed deaths, \u201cbut we all know the epidemic in Wednesday\u2019s update of 600 suspected cases and 139 suspected deaths.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-ad c-ad--bigbox l-article__ad c-ad--tallSticky\">\n<p>Story continues below commercial<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe situation in Uganda is stable, with two cases confirmed in individuals who travelled from DRC, with one death,\u201d he added. \u201cThe measures taken in Uganda, including intense contact tracing and cancelling the Martyrs\u2019 Day commemoration, appear to have been effective in stopping the further spread of the virus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ghebreyesus said the American national who was working in DRC has also been confirmed positive and transferred to Germany for care.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re also aware of reports today about one other American national who&#8217;s a high-risk contact who has been transferred to the Czech Republic,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The governments of DRC and Uganda are leading the response to the Ebola outbreak, with support from the WHO and partners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlong with our national staff in DRC, thus far we&#8217;ve deployed 22 international staff to the sector, including a few of our most experienced people,\u201d he told reporters. \u201cAnd we&#8217;ve released US$3.9 million from the Contingency Fund for Emergencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The WHO head said the organization can also be in contact with UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher, who allocated $60 million to the response.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the bottom, we\u2019re supporting national authorities with every pillar of the response, including contact tracing, establishing treatment centres, risk communication and community engagement and more,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The WHO can also be establishing a continental incident management support team and in the approaching days, it would publish a multi-agency strategic preparedness and response plan, aligned with the national plans of DRC, Uganda and other partners.<\/p>\n<div outbreak is attributable to the Bundibugyo virus, for which there aren&#8217;t any approved vaccines or therapeutics, Ghebreyesus said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-inlineSignup\" killed 37. Then also we take a look at criteria for implementation. We will not be yet at this phase of criteria for implementation since the committee only checked out the drugs which might be available.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Briand said the subsequent steps require discussing with health authorities and other partners to see how they&#8217;ll implement them.<\/p>\n<p>She called the antiviral obeldesivir a \u201cpromising treatment\u201d but it would must be implemented under a \u201cvery, very strict protocol.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vasee Moorthy, the WHO\u2019s senior science and strategy advisor, said the WHO already has \u201csomething prioritized within the prevention of cases and that\u2019s the oral obeldesivir that has already been mentioned.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-tabs\">\n<p>\n\t\t\t<button role=\"tab\" class=\"c-tabs__tab c-tabs__tab--active\" type=\"button\">More on World<\/button><br \/>\n\t\t\t<button role=\"tab\" class=\"c-tabs__tab\" type=\"button\">More videos<\/button>\n\t\t<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Earlier this week, Moorthy said one vaccine candidate was six to nine months away from being available for clinical trials.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-ad c-ad--bigbox l-article__ad c-ad--tallSticky\">\n<p>Story continues below commercial<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>One other is being developed by the University of Oxford and India\u2019s Serum Institute and was having doses \u201cmanufactured as we speak,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>But Moorthy said there was no data from animal testing to support the vaccine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is feasible that doses may very well be available for clinical trial in two to 3 months but there may be numerous uncertainty about whether that may be a promising candidate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;ll rely upon the animal data on whether that\u2019s considered a promising candidate research vaccine for Bundibugyo, in order that\u2019s what I might say in regards to the pipeline now.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"l-article__part\" data-shortcode=\"section-heading\">\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t<span class=\"l-article__sectionAnchor c-sectionHeading__anchor\" id=\"residents-burn-ebola-treatment-centre-in-congo\"><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"c-sectionHeading__title\">\n\t\t\t\tResidents burn Ebola treatment centre in Congo\t\t\t<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The WHO head spoke in regards to the Ebola treatment centre in a town at the guts of the outbreak in eastern Congo that was set on fire Thursday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-ad c-ad--bigbox l-article__ad c-ad--tallSticky\">\n<p>Story continues below commercial<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The arson attack in Rwampara took place after people were stopped from retrieving the body of a neighborhood man, in keeping with a senior police officer.<\/p>\n<p>The bodies of those that die from Ebola could be highly contagious and result in further spread when people prepare them for burial and gather for funerals.
