Some 90 people have been confirmed dead following a gas explosion at a coal mine in northern China.<\/p>\n

Greater than 240 staff were on duty underground on the Liushenyu coal mine in Changzhi, Shanxi province when the explosion occurred at around 7pm on Friday.<\/p>\n

President Xi Jinping called on authorities to \u2018spare no effort\u2019 in rescuing survivors and treating those injured by the blast.<\/p>\n

The reason behind the incident in Qinyuan county is currently under investigation, the state-owned Xinhua news agency reported.<\/p>\n

As a part of a probe, executives from the Shanxi Tongzhou Group accountable for managing the ability have been arrested.<\/p>\n

Six national emergency mine rescue teams were dispatched to the scene.<\/p>\n

No less than 4 staff had died as a consequence of high levels of carbon monoxide within the mines.<\/p>\n

Nearly 40 people remained trapped underground as of 7am local time, local news sources reported.<\/p>\n

A complete of 123 individuals are currently recovering in hospital after being pulled from the wreckage, including 4 in a critical or serious condition.<\/p>\n

One other nine people were still reported as missing as of 2pm.<\/p>\n

Coal mine explosions in China are sometimes attributable to flooding, although regulations introduced since 2000 have reduced the variety of fatalities from incidents.<\/p>\n

The most recent blast is certainly one of deadliest reported in recent times.<\/p>\n

Premier Li Qiang called for information to be released in a \u2018timely and accurate manner\u2019.<\/p>\n
