The sixth annual Canadian Game Awards wrapped up last night in Toronto, and Compulsion Games\u2019 South of Midnight had one hell of an evening. The Montreal-based studio\u2019s Deep South-set action-adventure walked away with six game awards plus the Studio of the 12 months prize, including Game of the 12 months. Hosts Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer, higher often called the feminine and male Commander Shepards from Mass Effect, presided over the evening on the John W.H. Bassett Theatre.<\/p>\n

South of Midnight took home Game of the 12 months, Best Art Direction, Best Narrative, Best Rating\/Soundtrack, Best Audio Design, and Best Console Game. The 2 categories it was nominated in and didn\u2019t win were Best Game Design, which went to Rogue Factor\u2019s Hell is Us, and Best in Accessibility, which Assassin\u2019s Creed Shadows took as its only win of the night. Hell is Us also got Best Performance for Elias Toufexis as R\u00e9mi.<\/p>\n

Wanderstop\u2019s Best Indie Game win is bittersweet provided that developer Ivy Road announced it was shutting down just weeks before the ceremony. Lost Records: Bloom & Rage from Don\u2019t Nod Montreal took the inaugural ESAC Fan Selection Award, while Victor Lucas of Electric Playground received the first-ever Game Changer Award.<\/p>\n

The ceremony also featured \u201cfirst look\u201d reveals for Toronto-based Cococucumber\u2019s Echo Generation 2 (releasing May 27), Halifax-based Paracosm\u2019s Dagger Woods VR, and a brand new trailer for Montreal-based Heartloop Games\u2019 Poly Fighter.<\/p>\n
