Marcos, Jr. se<\/span><span class=\"s4\">cured around P260 billion in investment pledg<\/span><span class=\"s3\">es from top Japanese firms during meetings in <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Tokyo, as Manila seeks to draw supply-chain relo<\/span><span class=\"s3\">ca<\/span><span class=\"s4\">tion and shield the economy from geopolitical <\/span><span class=\"s5\">ten<\/span>sions and rising energy risks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cThe Philippines is pursuing a transparent national direction: constructing an economy where infrastructure, industry, finance, human capital and connectivity move together as one system of growth,\u201d Mr. Marcos told executives from Japanese conglomerates and financial institutions on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cAnd increasingly, we recognize that trade and tourism will probably be amongst a very powerful engines of that growth,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Of the quantity, $3.4 billion or around P210 billion are expected to support manufacturing, tourism infrastructure, renewable energy and supply-chain development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s6\">Mr. Marcos on Thursday secured one other P53.6 billion in potential investments from Japanese firms which are planning to expand operations within the country. Ltd. to debate the firm\u2019s P17-billion expansion project within the Philippines. The project involves the production of advanced heat sink modules and thermal management products utilized in global <\/span><span class=\"s5\">electronics and digital infrastructure applications.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Mr. Marcos said Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. pledged a P4.3-billion investment to expand their advanced electronics manufacturing operations in Laguna.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>This may involve the development of a brand new facility run by their Philippine unit First Sumiden Circuits, Inc., the country\u2019s only manufacturer of flexible printed circuits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cTheir latest facility will help position the Philippines deeper into global supply chains for electric vehicles, AI (artificial intelligence)-related electronics, and advanced telecommunications,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s7\">The President also had a gathering with executives of Tsuneishi Group Corp. to debate the corporate\u2019s planned expansion of shipyard facilities in Balamban, Cebu, in addition to the continued development of environmentally sustainable next-generation vessels. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s7\">Once the expansion is accomplished, the Philippines is predicted to turn out to be the world\u2019s fourth-largest shipbuilding nation, after China, Japan, and South Korea. His visit coincided with the 70<sup>th<\/sup> 12 months of the normalization of Manila and Tokyo\u2019s diplomatic ties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s7\">Trade Secretary Maria Cristina A. (AC), the Philippines\u2019 oldest conglomerate, signed three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with major Japanese firms during Mr. Marcos\u2019 four-day visit in Japan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">The PCO said that AC and Ayala-led Globe Telecom, Inc. signed an MoU with Japan\u2019s Mitsubishi Corp. and KDDI Corp. to ascertain \u201cIntelligent City\u201d initiatives in Makati City, which might be expanded to other urban areas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">Mitsubishi Corp. is a multinational conglomerate with operations across machinery, energy, and automotive, while KDDI Corp. is a Japanese telecommunications firm ranked among the many Fortune Global 500 Firms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">In response to the PCO, the \u201cIntelligent City\u201d project will leverage AI, Web of Things, urban data integration platforms, and advanced telecommunications solutions to enhance transportation, retail and business services, energy management, and digital city services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">AC and Globe Fintech Innovations, Inc. The initiative, which goals to make Filipinos\u2019 digital transactions more convenient, is predicted to generate around P7 billion in revenues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">The partnership will cover rewards programs, ticketing services, online payment platforms, and digital marketing solutions, PCO said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">AC and Mynt, the parent firm of digital wallet GCash, also inked a separate MoU with Mitsubishi and Japanese bank holding company Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) to expand GCash\u2019s services within the Philippines and overseas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s5\">The partnership is predicted to assist integrate GCash into AC and Mitsubishi\u2019s business ecosystems across retail, real estate, energy, mobility, and digital services, the PCO said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">The initiative would concentrate on developing higher digital payment systems, lending services, investment products, and stronger online security, it added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">AC President and Chief Executive Of<span class=\"s4\">f<\/span>icer Cezar P. Consing said its partnerships with Japanese firms align with its push to construct more inclusive financial systems while helping more Filipinos take part in the digital economy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cThese partnerships reflect our shared commitment to nation-building, leveraging innovation, infrastructure, and technology to support the Philippines\u2019 long-term growth,\u201d he said in a separate statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s7\">Angelito \u201cLito\u201d M.
