Netflix India\u2019s romantic comedy series The Royals is ready to undergo a major creative shift in its second season. In accordance with an exclusive report by Variety India, filmmaker Jasmeet K. Reen has been brought on board to direct the upcoming season of the Ishaan Khatter-led show.<\/p>\n

\"Darlings<\/p>\n

Darlings fame Jasmeet K. Reen replaces Nupur Asthana as director of The Royals Season 2: Report<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Reen, who made her directorial debut with the critically acclaimed film Darlings<\/em> in 2022, will take over directing responsibilities from Nupur Asthana. Asthana, who helmed the primary season alongside Priyanka Ghose, is known to have stepped away from the project on account of prior commitments. She is currently working on one other Netflix series backed by Ekta Kapoor’s production banner. Priyanka Ghose is predicted to proceed her association with The Royals.<\/p>\n

Reportedly, pre-production on the second season is currently underway, with filming prone to begin in July 2026.<\/p>\n

The change in direction comes shortly after reports suggested that Bhumi S. Pednekar, who played the feminine lead opposite Ishaan Khatter in the primary season, is not going to return for the subsequent chapter. It’s speculated that her exit has been linked to a broader creative restructuring of the series.<\/p>\n

Reen gained recognition with Darlings<\/em>, starring Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah and Vijay Varma, which received widespread critical appreciation following its release. She can also be attached to direct a period drama based on the lifetime of legendary actress Madhubala. The project, backed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, will reportedly feature Dhurandhar<\/em> actress Sara Arjun within the lead role.<\/p>\n

In accordance with reports, Reen is predicted to finish filming for The Royals S2 before starting work on the Madhubala biopic later this yr.<\/p>\n
